\driving along and engine just died, all electrics seem ok, just died, waiting to get through to breakdown, any ideas??

Hello hiram,

Had similar problems too with my 04 td4, got it transported home and the thing didnt want to run at all ... took some advice from local landy guy, changed fuel filter and checked low pressure pump from tank to engine( on mine both are in rear offside wheel arch) all seemed well next suggestion was to get injectors checked, bosch service will do this for you recon/repair costs are currently £126+vat each defective injector . mine were all ok so looked at the high pressure sensor located in the fuel rail/manifold ins in the nearside end and has three wires connections were filthy tried to clean but to no effect, Resorted to swapping it out for replacement £111.80 from land robber. Once exchanged engine ran real nicely.... until i let it go cold, were upon it takes some cranking to get it to fire on all four pots, almost like its lost fuel pressure on start up , im still looking into this at the moment but will come back if i get sorted as this is a real common problem with td4 at the moment. There are variences with locations of filters and pumps dependent on year, older models have 2 pumps and filter in the engine bay nearside/back hope you get sorted...

I have a feeling its a fuel problem, as it turns over fine, possibly a cut out fault??

td4 has a low pressure pump from tank to engine, usually located in rear wheel arch, then a high pressure pump in the engine bay located f*ck knows where 'cos i haven't had to find it yet.

I am assuming you have checked the fuel cutout switch which is loctated at the back rhs (facing the engine) and can be found by looking for a sticker with a fuel pump with a line through it. just a thought........

good luck

The bmw engined td4 only has one primary pump in the wheel arch which feeds the high pressure injection pump via a filter also located in the rear offside arch... switch ignition to 2nd position and stick yer ear to the wheel arch you should hear a buzzing noise this noise will cut out after say 30 seconds if the engine is not started , turning off and back to position 2 , will re start the primary pump again
