Hello,

My Freelander 2001 Td4 , BMW engine has difficulties to start when the wheather is really cold, like -20 C.
The engine starts only after at least 3 tries.
I am thinking that is one of the spark plugs however i don't have a clue which one or how many does this moder has.
I am seeking your advice before taking it to service.
Many thanks.

Not spark plugs, glow plugs..
Test them all, they should read just under 1 ohm, if the motor is 10 years or so older for the price you may as well change them all anyway. Check the glow plug relay as well.
make sure the battery is in good nik n all, diesels don't like being cranked slowly..
Perhaps a K series would be ok at -20, shouldn't overheat in a hurry ;-)

Thank you for the answer.
My Freelander 1 is 2001 BMW engine, 1951 cm3 , 80kw, battery is Bosh brand new.I will have the glow plugs checked and the relay then let you know if the problem is fixed.
