hello, my 1.8 engine has given up on me and to be honest i want to put in a more reliable faster engine.
does anyone have and good sugestions for what could be used?
would a 2.0l turbo k series fit in with some work?
any ideas would be brilliant!
cheers

2.0 K series should be easier than fitting a 2.0 T series. You will have to do some exhaust fabrication as the downpipe on the turbo mounts lower.

Sounds like a good project - make sure you get the engine wiring loom and ECU - even better would be a rear accident damaged vehicle that you can swap the engine and ensure correct running.

cheers mate. yea the 2.0l k series was the back up idea, but i wanted somthing a bit different lol. so the t series should fit in ok with a bit of work? like the turbo mounts?
the rovers are cheap to puck up theses days, it just keeping a eye out for one with decent miles on it!

I bought my freelander cheap with HGF. I was driving round in a rotting Rover 220, but with a solid engine. My second option (if 1.8 could not be fixed) was to have a go at dropping the 220 engine in.

Mounts may have to be fabricated, but as the fit the K series into the R8 (Rover wedge) model, then it can't be that different.

Once again 220 Loom and ECU will have to be looked at. Bandit600 on these forums managed to fit a K series rover coupe with a 'L' series diesel engine. - so anything is possible!!

The biggest issue you will have is the PG1 gearbox bell housing. A gearbox designed for a K series engine wont bolt up to a T series engine. Its a simple case of stripping the gearbox and swapping the bellhousing over leaving the gear cluster assemblies intact.

I have a new PG1 T series bellhousing if you decide to proceed.

Steve
