Engine and Undercarriage Cleaning

Just bought a 1994 Defender 110 and obviously I have a little bit of work to do. Lando runs fine, but I know there are some fresh wet spots every time I pop the hood.....(I know the Landy saying "if there isn't any oil under it, then there isn't any oil in it). So, I'm going to clean the engine compartment and the undercarriage to find out where these leaky spots are. I was thinking of some dish soap, some gunk engine foam, and a water hose.... any other suggestions?

Gunk, jizer or some other engine degreaser. Brake cleaner, in a proper brake cleaner spray, for stubborn bits. Take care it's volatile.
For your undercarriage I'd recommend Pears Soap.

It's strong, but gentle on the skin

As said above Brake cleaner in a pump up squirty bottle is very good for oil leaks, we use it all the time at work.
Dont breath the vapour and dont smoke for a minute or two after using it.

Gunk or Jizzer get my vote. Steam clean the chassis and less delicate bits

I cleaned my engine bay etc with parafin in a paraffin gun with compressor. Came up like new

Do not do it over tarmac, it melts and dissolves the tar leaving a horrible mess.

kerosene good for dislodging stubborn oil and grease will melt tarmac would not advise spraying use a good stiff suds brush only takes it of the parts you want to clean

Yer can buy brake cleaner in 5L metal cans cheap. Then get a spray bottle that can cope with chemicals.

Spraying brake cleaner will do the job. It'll get the stubborn bits off. Just don't put loads on at a time because it is volatile. Good thing is, any you miss wiping with a cloth will evaporate way before it could run down and drip on the drive.
