Had my Disco a week now and finally got round to changing engine oil and filters. Whilst waiting for oil to drain was crawling round underneath to see if I could find source of slight oil leak ( few spots on drive) when I noticed threaded hole with bolt missing!! could someone please tell me what it is and what should be there - the vehicle has drove fine the week I,ve had her.

don't plug it unless you plan on wading in deep water or mud they don't have a plug as standard if your rear crank seal is the source of your leak then you will just build up oil in the bellhousing

Thanks Dyte! Still not sure where oil leak is - definitely rear of engine or at least not the front, just doing my best now to remove as much as I can to hopefully get a better picture - is crank seal a big job on these?

put a sheet of cardboard under it at night see where it drips my money would be vacuum pump pump seal it will run back and cover the axle too rear crank need gaerbox out

Thanks Dyte!! Wiped off as much as possible - absoloutely everywhere then waited for the first spot. Looking directly up from it the vp is definetely in view so looks like you cracked it for me. There,s no ticking noise from it and brakes have been fine, is it likely to be just the gasket between it and the block or is it something internal in the pump? Much appreciation of your input kind sir!!

try giving the bolts a tighten its a plastics gasket or it is on mine anyway. mine where slack but gaskets are pennys, i don't think they can leak anywhere but the gasket

Usually the cap of the vacuum pump. Mine leaked a bit when I got it , I ignored it and it got a lot worse after a year. Simple fix was drill the rivets out and replace them with little bolts. Saves you buying a new pump and if you've got a small hand drill you can leave it in situ :)
