Hello everyone
I was moving my Landy around in the driveway with difficulty getting it started. After I succeed and wanted to return it, it's refused to start.
After checking what I could I did a spark check on the plugs...no spark at all. The tool manufacturer suggested this was an ignition problem. I discovered that I have a Petronix electronic ignition. The from them is " if it works( which it did) it works and if it doesn't( which it doesn't) it won't.
I feel it's a throw away.
Any knowledge on how to check it?
If I go back to point and condenser what is the Red setup some places are selling?
Thanks in advance

I believe they are simply a rotating magnet that passes by a 'pickup' coil.
I would presume that if the magnet still is a magnet and that it does rotate with the engine (you should see it turn with the starter motor in action) and that the coil is not to far away (probably 10 to 12 thou ?) then it should induce a pulse, you need an oscilloscope to 'see' the pulse but a good digital multimeter will indicate its existence.

The coil is next then the distributor cap and HT leads to send it to the plugs.
As you can tell it's been a while since I played with a multi cylinder petrol engine

Thank you Miktdish for your input. To be honest, a lot of your statement was beyond my knowledge of understanding this subject.
The Landy came with this setup, no idea it's age or it's shelf life. Especially after all the effort in testing and it sounds like a quality of effort will be needed. The company stated on its site that the system either works or not. I really don't have a lot of confidence in the product regardless if it's an upgrade...I'm kind of old school.
