Hi guys,

I have a 2000 W re freelander, 1.8 K series.

On a recent journey i had to make an emergency stop, of wich stalled the engine, I then restarted and continued my journey only to find when i had reached my destination that when i switched off the ignition and removed the key the engine remained running. I stalled the engine to turn it off as this was my only option. But then noticed that all the console lights remained on. Any help or direction in what i should look for to resolve this would be a great help, i know my way round an engine but this is my first landy and thought best to post my concern before tinkering.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

yes still doin it key fully removed engine still running and dash lights still on as tho key was still in ignition stall car to stop engine then have to keep disconeccting battery every time park up to stop it goin flat

Ignition switch contacts are known to give trouble, although i've never known this particular fault it might still be a good place to start.

Have you checked all the fuses and relays Mechanicalsoul? Not sure wha one in particular but rule out the obvious first, although it does sound like the ignition switch to me anorl.

just a hunch, you don't have anything rechargable, like one of those big torches plugged into the cigarette lighter socket do you ? been known to back feed, on my freelander happily keeps the radio and a load of other things live, had an astravan and would let the engine carry on running, you could carry on driving quite happily if it wasn't for the steering lock.
