Just fitted a sony cd radio to my Defender 90, replacement the pile of cack it came with

The problem I have is that when I first start up and drive for the first 10 - 15 mins, any other electrical use seems to temp blip the power to the radio and it resets. So hitting the breaks, indicators, etc seems to switch the radio off for a split second and so loose all settings

When I was wiring it in, I noticed that the yellow lead which I always assumed was the trickle feed from the battery has no power so when I turn off the ignition I loose all power to the radio.

I have however read that the purple lead can be used to provide constant power, anyone know if I can wire this up to the trickle feed instead ?

The yellow wire coming out of the stereo needs to go to a permanent live. When I fitted my centre console I had to lose the clock, so I used that. The red wire coming out of the stereo should go to a switched live (i.e. only in with the ignition).

If someone else has already had a go at wiring the stereo in and made a pig's ear out of it, (as they had in my case,) you may need to trace the wires back to find out what they've done. In the end, I just removed all the horrendous splices/crimp connectors/Scotch connectors/etc. and started again.

Sod having an IGN live for the radio , just wire the IGN feed to the perm live :D you'll have an PWR button on the head unit anyway + wehn ya take off the face plate it powers down :) ........
