electrical problem with my 2001 td5

hi there guys

does anyone have an idea what is wrong with my td5 every now and then i lose all electrical power when i turn the ignition on then give it 5 mins and it sometimes comes bk

any help would be great

Check the battery terminals are tight.
Its worth prizing apart with a screwdriver the spilt near to the bolt as over time it becomes loose and no end of tightening the bolt will tighten the clamp to the post until you make the gap bigger.

Are there any specific conditions under which the symptoms occur? Does it happen when both hot and cold? How do you determine all electrical power has been lost? No lights on instrument cluster, failure to crank etc?

yes it happens when both hot and cold and yes no lights on instrument cluster and interior lights go off aswell as failure to crank
 
Depending upon your level of electrical knowledge rather than trying to look at all the faults together it is sometimes easier to look at one aspect (the interior light) and fix that. Once you find and fix the light issue you will probably fix all the others at the same time.
 
As Kwakerman says concentrate on one thing, seeing as loads of stuff goes off at the same time I would be starting at the main fuse box in the engine bay. fuse link 1 feeds the interior lights plus loads of other stuff so get your meter ready and next time it happens start there. Fuse link 1 is fed directly from the battery lead that connects at the front of the fuse box. I have seen a few of these overheated.
