I am importing a 2010 Defender, left hand drive, and to get it registered I needed to change the speedo face to one with miles per hour. I bought the new face, dismantled the instrument cluster front and as the needle for the speedo didn't seem to want to come off I managed to quite easily slip the new fascia over the old one with the needle still in position. It fitted nicely, looks as though it belongs, and does not foul the needle at all.
The problem arose when I switched it all back on. The speedo needle jiggled backwards and forwards a couple of times and settled at 10 mph. It then worked correctly but reading 10 mph too fast despite the fact that the zero marking and all calibration marks are all in the same place as the old one. You can move the speedo needle to other positions but it seems to go in jumps of about 2 cms. With the engine running I could move the needle to a point below zero but it would then not move until I was going about 20 mph. If I then switched off and started it again it would jiggle about again and settle at 10 mph.
Does anyone know if it is possible to have it reset or recalibrate somehow.
I would be grateful for any advice.
