Hi all,

My father and I are new to the freelander scene, around a year ago he purchased a freelander 2, 2008 GS. We have explored it a little, rebuilt the diff, done some paintwork etc.

Came with fabric seats and manually adjusted.

He has purchased leather, electric adjustment, heated seats. I have installed the rears since no wires. Now the front ones came with the electrical plug (cut, from breakers). So not sure what goes on the other end.

The plug for the leathers have the same wires as the fabric ones but obviously additional ones which we thought were just for heat so we threw one seat in, plugged it in and nothing worked which was expected but worth a shot.

Cut a Long story short, if we purchase a loom for the seats, where does the other end connect to? Is it just another plug or does each wireneed to be connected to something separately.

Also, is there anything else we need to do to make the adjustments work? Not majorly bothered about heat.

Thank you all in advance :)

Steven

There'll be an ECU for the seats. You'll need that and update the car configuration files to include the new seat module.

Thank you for that. Do you know where the seat ECU's are located? Also is there one per seat?

Once the new ECU's are purchased and swapped over, do we just need someone with "Land Rover stuff" to code them in?

Sorry I'm a VW guy so no clue on updating files or if Land Rover have there own thing like VCDS.

I'm not sure there the seat module is on the FL2 as all my LR seat module experience is with the D3. On the D3, the seat module is under the drivers seat. It controls the seat and mirrors from the same module. There should be a large number of wires and plugs under the carpet, beneath the seat, if the wiring is in place. It is on the D3, so I'm guessing it will be there on the FL2 too. You'll need to have access to someone with an IID tool or similar, to update the CCFs on other vehicle modules.

So will there be "free" plugs under the carpet?

Looking underneath at the large connector(module/ECU's) there is a good amount of wires all together in conduit. Around 10 on ours but 17 on the new seats I believe.

The new seats are electric and heated where as old ones were just standard manual no heat. Will the "extra" wires be under the carpet or would we need the whole loom from the seat to .... I don't know where that loom then connects to to be honest

I would think that the wiring is there, but it's possible it isn't.
Seat heating is controlled by the HVAC ECU. You'll need the heater controls for the heaters to work.
Seat movement and mirror control is done by the seat module.

I've signed up now but doesn't look like it's as "active" as this one lol.

We tried just plugging them in but did nothing :( have posted a thread on that forum anyway to see if there is any further info on it.

I could have a look under the carpet but no clue what I'm looking for that's the problem. I have wiring diagrams here but no chance I can make sense of them

This thread tells you what you need to know.

For the motors, it looks like it's involved, but not an impossible job. You'll need to break into the CAN bus and run some power feeds to the seat modules. The seat heaters need similar treatment to from the HVAC and seat heaters.
