just noticed a problem with the electric seat ( drivers side) all the functions work apart from the rise and fall part. Is this a relay or a switch problem?- if so how easy is it to replace a switch?- the motor spins but not moving the seat up or down.
Questions .. does the seat part ( not the back or lumbar part ) have 6 or 4 axis of motion? ie to and fro, tilt forward and back-(rear of the seat,to lift your arse up), tilt up and down from under your knees, and a straight up and down? or is the last bit using a switch which uses the tilts together?
Where can i get hold of some diagrams or pictures of the switch or axis of motion?
I did a search for this and - nothing- I looked on RAVE, same result!
HELP!

hmmm, the electric seats have power adjustable, well, everything :D if you go into RAVE and then select to look at the owners manual you will see the different ways you can make the seat move.

The height adjustment, i.e. to make the seat rise up, on mine, is controlled by the motors which also deal with the rear tilt (bit that brings your arse up and down) and the front tilt (bit that brings your knees up and down). So if you operate them together they allow height adjustment of the entire seat. So in answer to your original question, yes, the height adjustment is dealt with by the tilt motors.

I hope that made sense :D

OK, the are tilt bit work both ways, but the knee lift and fall is fecked? the rise and fall is the combo of the two.....hmmm- how the feck do I fix this one? I looked at Rave, couldn't see any adjustment diagrams...I will look again
Thanks for the replies!!

so its the motor that controls the knee lift thats buggered?? when you operate the switch does the motor even run?? Im confused by the part saying you can hear it running but it doesnt run??

Yes the knee lift motor is spinning but the seat is not being raised, when the switch is lifted to the position where it should activate the lift, only the butt raiser works. I think it might be the switch- I am guessing just like the rest of the parts lists you can just buy one small section of a switch- but only the switch pack!

The drive motors move the seat functions by flexible cables. I had a problem and found the cause to be a dodgy connection at the multi pin plug below the seat. The harness is not too long and a pin could be dislodged, especially with the seat fully forward. Try giving the pins a shove in.
If you still suspect the switch pack or motor-drop me a PM as I have a spare seat base complete with motors and ecu and switch pack (R.H) memory seats which are perfect.

The seat base and switch pack came off a 98 4.6 HSE with memory seats. I bought them as I had a problem but as the previous post, it turned out to be a pin that had partially pulled out of the main multi plug under the seat so I didn't use them but I did check them out and they work fine.

Just another thought.
Remove the valance from the seat and then remove the switch pack-held on with self tappers and spray some switch/contact cleaner into the switch just in case it's dirty inside-worth a try. I used to have intermittent problems with a Vogue Classic seat switches. I know the P38 switches are not exposed as much as the old Classic but it's a possibility. You should be able to get the cleaner from Maplins, RS components or any electronics suppliers.
