Electric Seat Malfunction

The drivers electric seat in my 92 Vogue SE Classic has suddenly stopped working
All the relays work and can be heard clicking and the three fuses under the seat are in good shape, but it won't move in any direction.

A chum suggested the seat might be at the end of it's travel and need a bit of encouragement but not so!

As all of the adjustments previously worked and now none do I'm assuming it must be some kind of power failure, any ideas anyone as this and the electric mirrors are the only things that don't work!

Bad earth? The mirrors are also controlled via the ECU I believe.
 
the ECU under the drivers seat is playing up. might be as simple as the battery needs changing and a quick clean up where the battery may have leaked

Battery is quite new and all the main earths have been cleaned up to clear a misfire. If there's a separate earth for the seat - where is it? Also, thought the ecu under the driver's seat was the engine ecu - does this one control the seats then?

Don't know the Classic, but engine ECU's are normally under the bonnet. If there is only one under the seat it's for the seats and the battery being referred to is the internal one in the ECU not the car battery.
 
right under the base of the seat not on the floor, so an inch from your bum cheeks so to speak is a whute ecu box for the seats and mirrors. in that box is a small battery, which over time leaks and causes problems. it is easier to take seat out to get to the ecu.
 
If the ecu under the driver's seat has failed - would that also make the passenger seat inoperative - my passenger seat works perfectly...

No, the seat ECU is for the mirrors and drivers memory seat. Passenger seat would be unaffected although the switches do play up, do a search, plenty info around regarding memory seats. Most common failure for memory seat/mirrors is leaky battery in the ECU destroying tracks on the circuit board. If damage is not too severe ECU can be repaired. Replacements cost an arm and a leg though. Don't forget that the drivers seat must be able to move properly for MOT.

Is that housed in a grey box towards the rear of the seat with a sticker on that says void if opened?

Going to try to extract it as it's hard to get the seat out when you can't move it....

Found a battery supplier and - should the chip have failed found a supplier for them too so then it's send the lot to an ecu reparier and cross fingers.....
 
When my classic seats failed - to remove them I had to take the drive cables out of the motor and manually wind the cables to move the chair (both cables have to be turned together else the chair will jam on the rails) until I could get to the mounting bolts....

It was a bugger as I had to motor the chair rearwards to undo the front bolts - then the other way to release the rear bolts (2 off) and took for bleeding ages to move!!
 
Thanks guys - you were right. Got the ecu out without removing the seat, if you unhook the harness and unscrew the back of the gray box and lever it open you can, with difficulty, slide the ecu out and unplug it - guess what - leaky battery and green bits on the pcb but not too serious looking so it'll be off to a repairer next week.

As I still have the seat in - I can still drive it and with that Ice Cold air con on a day like today - wahay!!:rolleyes:
 
Not well

Got the repaired ECU back, hooked it all up and nothing - except that the car then wouldn't start - turned out the fuel pump fuse had blown ( funny it's close to the ECU) so the thing is now sitting at my Range Rover specialist who is taking the seat apart......

Can you help describe how to get this ecu out, what is the gray box ?

I see its nearly a grand for a new one but also looking at the circuit diagrams kindly supplied by Saint V8 its not going to be easy to bypass the ecu either so lets hope a repair works
