Right, I know this has been covered before, but I thought I'd ask afresh to get some info.
The recent hot weather has definitely been having an affect on my poor OneTen, especially towing. I don't really want to spend a couple of hundred spondoolies on a Kenlowe kit, so I need to gather bits together to do it DIY. Lots of others have mentioned the mk3 Mondeo as having a suitable fan, have any of you lot fitted one ( or similar ), what other bits do I need for my shopping list?
I don't need to be able to switch it off ( override ) as I don't do any of that wading malarkey.
Cheers in advance.
Edit: Discovery 200tdi conversion, no viscous fan fitted.

I have a 300tdi / LT77 conversion. I retained the viscous fan, even though the accepted wisdom is that it is too far back when the 300tdi is fitted to the LT77.
It runs bang on the centre of the temperature gauge, towing and when I took it over the Hardnott Pass the other week, (1 in 3 in places) so the fan must be doing something.
I had considered fitting an electric fan, but the viscous fan was a lot simpler.

Do you have a shroud fitted? I've considered putting a viscous fan back on and trying to improvise a shroud, but the leccy fan would be easier.

Viscous fan and shroud will be better. It is what the designer of the vehicle thought would work well.

The shroud doesn't fit because of the conversion. Most Disco 200tdi conversions have either a leccy fan or no fan. Kits are available for electric fans, but they're expensive for what they are.

Can you get a shroud that does fit, or modify the shroud you have?

I have a set of twin Kenlowe fans, and the radiator mounted sensor to go with them. I removed them from mine in 2011, because I found they weren't as good as the standard set-up.

Yours if you want them, £100 plus postage. Personally, i would get a shroud that works, and a viscous fan.

1+ for the viscos fan. I fitted a Kenlow fan thinking there would be a quicker warm up time in the winter and might improve MPG. Didn't make any difference what so ever. I have gone back to a Viscos fan as I found myself always having one eye on the temperature gauge and wandering if the fan was going to trip in. he set up I had was fully automatic with sensors. Worked crossing the Sahara but still prefer the viscos. As someone said above " the visco is what they were designed with"
Work on the cowling and have piece of mind.

cant turn a viscous fan off when wading

see my how to thread on a leccy fan. https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/mhm-lecky-fan-fitting-in-piccies.46314/
cheers MHM. Will give that a look.

Cheers for the offer. I'd prefer viscous, but there's nearly 2' between the front of the engine and the rad, hence why the shroud/cowl doesn't really work. As you know the 200tdi doesn't get too hot under normal conditions, so I just need something that switches on when the weather gets a bit warm and I'm sitting in traffic or got a load on the back.

Iv fitted a mondeo one to mine. Its the single fan one you need. The housing needs cutting back abit. Then you just make mounts up to fit the original fan shroud mountings. Iv just got a toggle switch under my instrument panel with a relay behind the guages. Works well for me. I done it years ago. I only ever use the fan for towing up hills for miles in the summer. Il take some pictures. Was only supposed to be temporary.

Mines a standard 200tdi 1990/91 so wouldn't know. Sorry. Tho its just bolted to the inner wing. Did you want some pictures of it? We fitted a disco air box to my father's series 3 that's got transit engine in it. The good thing is you make up everything.

The Kenlowes are there if you want them. PM me to arrange, I can send them next week.
