Hi all,
Thought I'd better post this question separately ('98 P38 4.0 Gems Auto SE).
I have no EKA code paperwork and, having called my local Main Dealer (Lister's Hereford) asking for help I was told "they can't help as they have no data for something that old..." Clearly, I was a little surprised that they wouldn't be able to match VIN from V5C to LR records.

Anyone else had this problem? Any simple solution?

Or, can you suggest a dealer I can take the paperwork & proof of ownership to for help? I NEED to be careful as I feel I'm heading towards a precipice because I was only given a single key fob with my recently purchased P38. I've had some very helpful suggestions regarding sorting an additional fob from members here - just been buried in chasing engine issues & not ordered one yet, thanks.

In the short term, I now have a warning that Fob Battery is low. If I replace the batteries, is there a 'residual time' the fob stays live or must it be re-coded to the vehicle. Please be aware, this truck has no background info regarding codes :(

Advice please...;)

The service manager can access the security information go and see them in person with the registration document and photo ID. I think someone got the info from JLR but try the Sealer's first.

Many thanks, will go see them tomorrow. Hopefully it was just someone being lazy over the phone...

Any thoughts about Fob battery swap? I assume not a good idea without EKA code.
Also, will it automatically re-synchronise with the car after new batteries are installed?

I'd get the code first, have you checked the door latch microswitches using the info posted by Brian? May be worth checking the white block connectors behind the A post kick panels., they are known to corrode and cause problems.Best cut them out and solder and heat shrink the wires.the blocks are only for use during assembly.;)

At the moment the whole system actually works! ;)

I'm just trying to preempt issues as the dash display is warning me that the fob batteries are low &, as I only have one fob, I don't want to change them in the next couple of days without some way of starting / re-synchronising the Fob to the truck.

Once I have a system with as much information as possible, I'll start tearing into bits to make them more reliable.

If you lock and unlock using the key do all doors respond? If they do it's a good indication that the microswitches are working. Think you have a minute to change the batteries, what's the battery cover like?a 2pence piece is the recommended tool. I've had to resync the key before, insert key turn to lock whilst holding down the lock button for a few seconds the do the same for the unlock, or you may be able to put the key in the ignition turn on and a dash message will tell you to press the fob button .if the engine disabled message is displayed you will need the EKA code or you will have a 2.5 ton ornament.

Ref EKA, not all dealers are equal. I tried ringing the Swindon dealers and got no luck, put on hold every time I rang and one point they left me there for a hour until I gave up.
Tried Melksham then they had my EKA in less time than it takes to make a brew.

Thanks. Will sort EKA code before trying anything!

I made appointment over phone then took log book and driving licence and dealer printed info and codes (radio included) all for free

I read some time ago, sync the key by putting key in the lock, press and hold unlock, turn to unlock and hold it there until the light on the fob stops flashing.. repeat but lock instead

I'm sure someone posted once about a dealer that did it over the phone. Might have been SW London area?

Sometimes if rhe fob goes out of sync upu need to inlock with the other fob first or clear RF memory with Nanocom. To resync key put the blade in rhe lock, press lock then turn to lock; press unlock and turn to unlock. Repeat if necessary. If it refuses to sync either the microswitches are acting up or you need diag to clear RF memory. Later models (post 99?) can resync in the ignition barrel, I think.

Driving a Range Rover round Liverpool? You must be a slave owner or drug dealer or both. :)
