Hey there, first a little about me, I have been wheeling a 1989 Cherokee for some time and loved it(comes with manually lockable T-case)! I have decided though, it is time for me to buy my favourite 4x4 of all time, the 1989-1993 RR SWB.

Here are some questions I have, before I make this sudden purchase.
I have done a lot of reading about the RR on sites such as RR.net and such, and have got a good general idea about the RR and its capabilites, at least in theory.
Here is where I hope you all will give it to me from actual first hand experience.
I know the RR came with the Auto Locking T-case, which locks automatically via a viscous coupling(or whatever it is called).
In theory that sounds good, but how does it really perform under medium to heavy off roading conditions? How strong is it the T-case?

There are 2 ranges, High and Low. When in Low, does it automatically lock?
When in High, it locks when needed, and does it stay locked, or is it always locking and unlocking?

Anything else I should know about the performance of an RR and its 4X4 system?

I know that after 93 they came with ETC, I am looking for 1990's or so, so I will not have the ETC. Is that a big down fall?

Please educate me as much as possible, as I am currently looking at one Rover and want to know as much as possible before I make a decision.

Thanks a lot in advance, and please elaborate as much as you can/
