Eberspecher diesel heater

As we all know the heater in the landy is pants, looking at doing a trip to the french alps this december for 2 weeks. am looking at fitting a eberspacher airtonic diesel heater. Has anyone out there ever fitted one, i'm looking at fitting an independent internal fuel tank, hopefully that way i can use red diesel/heater fuel which will be cheaper and legal. I have a 90 station wagon. If i keep the wife warm on this trip, i will keep her happy and be able to do more overlanding in colder climates.

I reckon you'll be too hot. My mate's got one in a lwb tranny and it's like an oven in there when it's on so in a confined space like a 90 you'll only need it on for a sec or you'll be cooked

Hughesy, yep hear what you are saying, the heater that i might be getting has a timer on. i would set it to hopefully kick in before i drive in the morning so that its warmed up, and hopefully has de-iced the windows. Once the engine is up to running temp, let the landy heater take over hopefully he says.......... That is the cunning plan anyway, plus it would save on fuel costs.

I fitted new eberspacher D2 with simple on/off switch with thermostat to my lorry. Absolutely brilliant! Very simple to install. With the thermostat you just set the temp and the heater will go into tickover mode once the temp has been reached and maintain that temp. The guy with the van must have no thermostat, if I set my thermostat full up then it would melt you in a very short space of time.

What is the fuel comsumpation like???

Percy,

Going by the eberspacher website it would be around 0.1 to 0.15 litres per hour. If you are using it to supplement your existing heating then I would say even less. In the truck it starts off high power then as the temp rises you can hear it getting lower and lower until it eventually stops. Then if the temp drops it comes on again.
