EAS wont Rise.. But no warning message..

Hi all..

This is my first post here so hello everone and I hope someone can help with this..

I have a 1996 P reg Range Rover P38 2.5td..

The problem is with the air suspention.. The light is in the access mode position and will then flash to whichever
position i choose on the control, however the suspention will not higher to what ever position is flashing.. There is no
error message on the screen and no EAS warning light comes on..

I thought that if it was in the access mode position it would warn me not to travel above 35mph..?

Is it safe to drive..?

Any help with this would be great..

Welcome to the forum,your compressor is worn out.
Sorry about that ! I can do an exchange rebuilt one for £105 + vat/carr.

You could verify it by openning the bonnet and taking off the cover to the EAS system which is located at the top right of the engine bay. Start the car and leave the drivers door open. You should hear the little compressor running and if you touch it you will feel it running as well. It will constantly run as it tries to fill the air tank.

DONT let it run for more than 20 mins though with the door shut. You will get a hard fault and need a trip to a dealer or local 4x4 shop to get it reset.

Driving around with the vehicle on the bump stops will be very harsh and bone shaking to say the least and you will probably damage a height sensor if you hit a big pot hole.

I had exactly the same with my 98 DSE not long after I got it. I went with a new compressor at the time as I didn't realise you could replace the seal. A rebuilt one from eightinavee is probably the best way to go. Or, if you feel flush, go down to the dealer and order a new one.

hi friend, I had exact same problem myself , and was indeed the compressor ..... no warning becos the "elastic" is broken (in the compressor), but is still trying to work and computor thinks all okay .. they are 200 quid+ at LR

Just incase you haven't replaced the compressor before, once you have completed the procedure, leave the door of the vehicle open and then start the engine. It should take a good compressor around 8 mins to fill the tank so basically, wait until the compressor stops running and then get in and close the door, select your height and hopefully the vehicle will rise to the right height in seconds

Im gona take the compressor off in the mornin, just to double check thats the prob by having a look at the seals inside as advised..

Will it be ok to put back on afterwards so as to keep me on the road until the new one arrives..

Yes, as long as you put it back toghether all ok. Be warned though that driving around on the bump stops does run the risk of damaging a height sensor as well as creating a hard fault. If the computer see's that it cant get the vehicle upto height after 20 mins (i think thats the time) then if will hard fault and your dashboard will light up like a xmas tree.

Edit: Forgot to mention, if you DO get a hard fault and you have replaced the compressor and its all working fine then you can get the vehicle back up to height by using the method described here until you can get the fault reset. HTH
