Hi all, my 2000 X reg P38 has developed a sticking valve in the block(twice now) and I have been told that I may need a reconditioned block. Other alternative is to have EAS removed and conventional suspension fitted. There is not much difference in cost.

Am a bit worried that converting it will affect the handling especially at motorway speed. Some of you guys must have had this done. What are the good points v bad points.

Your opinions will be appreciated. Thanks

Hi, in my opinion you have to leave it on air, p38's on springs always look to high I always look at them on ebay and i can tell from the pic its on coil springs before reading the discription.

p.s. i'm breaking my p38 in sig below.

once on coils it will be end of your problems.
otherwise u still have 4 air bags wich perish and leak compressor wich fails valve block wich also fails and so and all these items are very exspensive items
The full coil spring conversion kit isnt very exspensive try 4 LR spares on 07932646825 he is very reasonable and helpfull

ive converted mine as i was fed up with suspension failin every other week it seemed i was always changin something on the eas side of things an since ive done it ive never looked back i got relabilty that its never gonna fail an to be fair handlin wise i aint noticed a great deal of difference

Thanks for replies, my mrs & I are not in the first flush of youth so the extra height ride does bother me. Don't use it off road so road handling is more important.
My gut feeling is to keep the EAS however worried about the possible future costs.

I changed my p38 to springs a week after i bought it after it decided to rest on its bump stops. Im glad i did it just know that i wont be having any more problems with air bags. The only down side I can see is the increased wear on the edge of the drivers seat as getting in and out you tend to slide over the edges. I didnt have air bags in long enough to be able to compare but after driving a mates 06 disco, I found that his tended to have more roll than mine with springs. Hope thie helps.

If you recondition the valve block yourself (or a garage) with new o-rings and diaphragm valve that should see it right for a while as long as the springs and compressor are in good condition, the o-ring kits are pretty cheap on e-bay at the moment too and don't take more than 1 and a half hours to do
