hi all, so after a couple of days in windows crash hell.. managed to get my EAS software back up and running..
however during my search for drivers again etc, i came across a version of the EAS software to run on a PDA..

has anyone ever seen or tried this ? if so how ?
i have an Old HP PDA running windows mobile.. so if this could be made to work could be handy...

can't for the life or me think how it could connect.. i have a dock for it which terminates in USB, but this is obviously male and intended to plug into a computer..

anyhow, interesting.....

I'm using that with my Range and have great success with it. I do have a PDA with a male serial DB-9 port on it (the PDA is actually a survey data collector for land surveying but is running bog standard PocketPC windows), I made a cable using the schematics from RSW's site and it just works. It is somewhat buggier than the PC version, but the PC version is just too picky regarding USB-Serial adapters for my taste (BTW, does anyone know an USB-Serial that works? I tried about 10 of them and none seemed to work...).

hmm interesting... there are a few PDA's on eBay that have micro Usb on them.. so wondering how / what cable combo i would need ?
as for the USB-serial question.. i've had various issues..
but comes down to quality of the adaptor far as i can determine.. but a genuine Prolific adaptor and you will be fine, i've had welkin, and generic ones.. some of which worked, some didn't and some sometimes did...
but the expensive ( or more expensive than the others ).. one.. worked 1st time everytime
would love to get the PDA thing working though, if just for portability / battery etc..

No problems with the EAS software, all the problems are with USB adaptors and driver compatability with various versions of Windows. Not all Prolific adaptors work, depends if they are a full RS232 implementation or not as I said before.
There are a lot of cheap Win 8 tablets available (Linx £75) with OTG/USB, I'm looking at getting on and seeing it the EAS software will run on it.

picked up an old HP pda on eBay £25, which has a 9 pin serial.. so will see if i can get this to work...
Tablet sounds like a great option in future too, especially if we can make it run SatNav, play Audio etc too.. can be made into a perm feature then...

i will keep my eyes open on that one..

Android is better for SatNav IMO, I use a Sanei N79. Sadly not been able to persuade it to run the EAS software
