Hi all cam anyone c please tell me where the earth straps are on my 2004 2.0d TD4 I'm having problems starting it and Alternator tester indicates faulty alternator but no battery lights on dash cheers

Is it not cranking at right speed??

Easy check is to measure volt drop across battery - ve to ground while cranking.

The alternator can fail, and not put the light on.
If the engine cranks over normally, then the earth straps are fine.
The battery negative strap goes to the body, just by the environmental protection housing. The engine earth strap goes between the chassis rail under the battery tray, and the gearbox.

I'm not a mechanic and don't know to or have the equipment to check that but the battery/alternator tester i have shows no alternator charge at all on TD4 but all three lights (red/amber/green) on my Jag ??? and when i use a spare battery with jump leads or leads car to car the TD4 starts no problem as normal thanks for you help Simon.

And has my TD4 only fit 1 earth strap battery to body to starter motor or it's there another one in passenger side wheel arch or in boot like a freelander 2 ? Cheers again

If you have an alternator tester that is showing no charge, then the alternator is faulty, or it's drive belt has broken. However if the drive belt for the alternator has broken, then the power steering will also stop working.

My money on the alternator, as they're known to get covered in oil when the filter is changed (most people don't bother covering it), causing the brushes wear out over time.

It'll have multiple earth straps, but if it starts from another battery, then it's not an earth strap. ;)
