Hi, I want to get into the 4 x 4 scene for some greenlaning and pay and play days, I have a budget of around £1500 do I go for an early 90td or an early disco 200tdi??

hi
i got into off roading some time back i made a very bad mistake when i bought a really nice Disco 1 to do this:mad:  after the second event i knew it had to be a 90:eek:

bought a really cheap 90 with a good chassis and have been adding kit to it as and when i get the money, but for off roading landy 90s REALLY ARE THE BEST:) :)

if you can get the 90:) :) :) :)

nothing wrong with the disco in fact i now use it as my everyday drive and love it

however when i tried to off road with it bearing in mind i had not carried out any mods i found the following
1) to heavy
2) to long for going over bumps and humps
3) it was an auto
4) IT WAS IN TO GOOD A CONDITION TO DRIVE THROUGH TREES AND MUD
5) i would say 90% in our club drive 90s

since i got the 90, well theres no stopping it

really it is down to two things money and personal choice when buying

I got my td90 for £600, keep looking you'll find one but if you go for a disco they are just as capable as a 90 and the engines are better. I can't see how the extra 10" wheel base would make that much difference. Unless you're into extreme CCV trails. Also they are much stronger than a 90 especially if you roll it. I had a disco and that was fine offroad.

Depends if it's a daily hack as well as a weekend toy, but personally i'm with ratty, a Def / 90 sort of looks 'comfortable' with a few dings etc, but if was for daily commuting etc as well as a plaything, then the disco would be the choice, simply because it won't leak, will be warm in winter.

wot about the built in shower units (sun roofs)?

Disco's will be cheaper than 90's to buy which if you shop around will leave you money to do repair's or upgrade tyres/shocks ect to get to the standard you want.
