hiya

sorry to ask another question but a while ago i changed my 3 door commercial freelander to having seats in the back.

Since then ive been trying to get my log book changed to a 3 door estate.

i changed the insurance ages ago to keep me legal and all above board.

Dvla have now asked for pictures of before and after, when i put in the rear seats i had to get the seat belt brackets welded in as they were ommitted from my commercial freelander and then had it mot'd by the same company and sent dvla a copy of the mot cert.

is this normal practice as to this date ive still not received a new log book and when i rang them last they said i may have to go to there nearest test centre and i imagine at my own expense.

has anyone else experianced this please or had problems with dvla

thanks so much in advance

all the best

gary

That is the DVLA for you mate. DVLA are renowned for winding people up, as that's what they do best. No wonder the DVLA keep receiving bombs and anthrax through the post!

thanks i just couldnt understand after me sending pictures and also a copy of the mot showing that it had been all fitted correctly and done by an approved garage

just dont fancy having to go one of their test centres but i know i have to jump through there hoops to then get my revised log book

just didnt know if others had problems with converting there freelander

They want to make sure. Thats all. They may have concern over the mods as it's a rare thing to do.

thanks as always,
as you say its rare thing to do i suppose ive never thought about it whether it;s common or not just found it alot cheaper buying it as a commercial then converting it, worked it out taking the seats etc off i must have saved around a 1,000

i must also admit now seeing ive done the conversion of what my car would be worth

its got 176,000 miles on the clock with a full service history on the clock

just out of curiosity i suppose

thanks again my friends

Hi Gary,

I have a freelander and work at the DVLA swansea. They are only so concerned as you are technically changing the body type of the vehicle from a commercial vehicle/panel van, to a 4/5 door car which would have to support any adults/children in an accident.. They just want to make sure you, or the company that do it for you have done it safely, and the right way.

As for RichM... Well, saying things like that just make you look like a prick. I was in work on both the anthrax and bombscare occasions.. and its probably one of the scariest things you can experience in work.. especially after all the terror that had just happened in london.. Maybe you should wind your childish ****ing neck in, and start talking like a grown up.. If your profile pic is anything to go by, you need to start driving like a grown up too.

The DVLA dont wind up ordinary people, they only wind up the ones who try to do things the wrong way...

many thanks for the replies and now that its been explained to me a fully understand the reasons now why they asked for the pictures.

now i know i must admit i feel extremely dumb and should have realised that before and do apologise for that..

wehn i came up against the seat belt brackets and realising they wernt there i did make sure i went to an approved garage got them to weld in the brackets and also mot the car for me at the same time

i was also concerned that i would have a battle on my hands but now i seeing it all makes perfect sense to me now.

thanks again guys and sorry once again for being so dim

all the best

i think being on a helicopter that ditches in the north sea is worse, or maybe falling 15 ft and landing on a hand rail, not finding out for 4 weeks if you will walk again would be a tad more scary than having some knob sending talc through the post.

i ****in love these types. "i was sat in an office where there could be some powder in an envelope" who gives a ****. did you recieve any or even a letter bomb. did ya ****. stop making yourself out to be some sort of hero. your a bastid office jockey who's too full of his own ****e.

i'm glad you admitted that the dvla do wind people up, it just confirms what a set of ****ers you all really are:rolleyes:

Last week I found out a work mates wife opened a parcel to find a fake bomb and powder in it. As her place of work is considered a target, they always knew it could happen. When it did, it sent her mental for a while after the shock. Has taken quite some time to get over it. Nearly lost her pregnancy too.

Gegs88, what a silly man...

Never made myself up to be a hero. And im not an office jocky either.. Actually a contracted engineer to the place that look after all the machinery.. so again, assumption has made an ass out of you..

If you took the time to read the reply, i stated only the people that try do things the WRONG way get wound up.. cos they dont get their childish way.. People who do things the right way, i.e. the legal way.. dont get wound up, because it gets done quicker.

If you were in a helicopter that ditches, thats due to bad luck/mechanical failiure, not some idiot who wants to hurt people (and again ill remind you that it happened around the time of all the terror attacks)..

Im sure you wouldnt find it so ****ing casual if it was your relative/wife/child that opened that parcel.

You sound just like the guy who I spoke to when I last rang the DVLA.

Hi Gary,

The DVLA dont wind up ordinary people, they only wind up the ones who try to do things the wrong way...

sorry but if thats not saying that the dvla winds people up i really must be reading it wrong.

so you don't work in the offices, contracted engineer, did you open any mail with anthrax or a bomb in it?

yes i can be casual because i have no family members in the dvla, should i worry about people i have no connection to. if i did that then life would be ****e.

do they actually have any machinery there?
Thought it was just a bunch of halfwits with a few colour laser printers and laminators...

they'd have a hard time running a tap if they weren't so micro-managed...
