Durite temperature gauge and sender check

Is there a way to check a Durite temperature gauge and sender before fitting it to the dash/engine? I have purchased a new but old stock unit so want to check before fitting.

I am not familiar with the durite unit specifically but I have tested senders before in the same manner that you would a thermostat, with a pan of boiling water on the cooker and a jam thermometer to measure the temperature.

Sender you measure the ohms or resistance when inserted in as said above hot water.
