Hi guys, feel a real novice here. And ive made a school boy error. Trying to learn, and unfortunatley learning from my mistakes as per usual

I manage to get the drop arm off as per your suggestions! Put the new one back on. Got back in the landy and noticed the steering wheel wasnt straight. So i thought an easy remedy would be to adjust the steering wheel on the splines!!

But, this didnt seem to work... It now takes 2 turns to full lock turning right, and about 1 1/2 to turn left on full lock. Despite it seem to be locking fully in all directions.

Ive f****d up again as per usual. But now ive altered the steering wheel, i have no idea where the drop arm should be.

Any ideas, sorry to be so thick and thoughtless. Thanks in advance

crawl under the steering box and you'll notice a notch in the drop arm.

there's another notch or hole on the steering box, when the arms a bit off centre. stick a screwdriver in and make sure these notches are aligned... that's centre.

now adjust your wheel again until straight. :)

Drop arm has a master spline, you should only be able to get it on in one position.
Have you turned the threads on the drag link?

I did it by having the wheels pointing straight ahead, despite what the steering wheel says, and line the drop arm up so it's split is at the back, arm pointing forwards, but not tightened on! Put a steering wheel on, again not tightened and make sure you have a full turn left and right. Adjust so that the steering arm is in the central position relative to the steering box, making sure the steering still turns left and right evenly and then move the steering wheel round to suit that. Then get the tracking done and change the steering wheel again if necessary. Tighten it all up properly.

Drop arm on my 90 doesn't have a split in it, but it does have a master spline, so it only goes on in one position.

Mine's off a Disco .. come to think of it, I can't remember, think it's a flat at the rear, but it's something to line up centrally anyway. I certainly don't recall a master spline though ..

Mine has a flat section, no split, and one spline is double width. So if its on, and central, its no problem to put the wheel straight and adjust the rods as yu describe.
Maybe the spline was one of the things that lr got rid of later to save money. Must make the job more awkward though!

Dunno 'cos it's a '97 Disco arm on an '89 90 steering box .. It's not that long since I did it with a brand new arm ... damned if I can remember!

Always difficult to remember these jobs when people ask :D I only did one on a mates 90 a few months ago, just pulled the original arm off and rebuilt and back on. That one had a master, and mine does, so I guess it is the later arm that doesn't have it.

indeed, I only remember, cos Id scribed it when I took mine off so it went back on right, then remember thinking, I didnt need to bother cos you couldnt get it wrong...

No worries .. ours are OK .. ;)

<joke> by the way, for the sensitive types who don't want others offended ....

Well its on at the moment. With the steering wheel take off and put on straight to match the wheels. And i can get full lock left and right, so should i worry and re do it again?

they all have a master spline,so shouldnt go on wrong ,but you can get left and right hand drop arms, which ive often seen the confusion caused by
