Took disco 2 for mot today, really felt like it was holding back, almost did not want to do much more than 50 felt like, but not as bad, like it was in a low ratio, it was not, then I noticed the incline switch was IN, yes light was on but I think its been on a long time, question have I done in the box or is something stuck in, please help its been off the road ages while I rebuilt the complete chassis.

Hi You are in the series section but quoting a Disco 2.

the HDC will only work in low range .............so this is a confusing post.

Cheers

hill descent will only come in in low box,id get fault codes read

Thanks, been off the road a while, wondered if the diesel was off, put some good shell in, seemed to be better after a bit, maybe it just needs used, the breaks are not sticking, I have changed the box oil, with the correct grade of 95 (not ep) renewed front propshaft seals, prop topped up, ep95, other stuff done, none of it can be relevant to performance, "D" bushes, link bars and so on the Tc is also on display.

I did have a worry it could have been something mechanical, as the only time I felt it was restricted before was when I had it in low gear, I quickly realized that when I was in fourth after 20 feet or so, possibly also having been driving our 3 series I am noticing a difference, but honestly having had the 2 for 12 years really feel it should be so much better !

there are a lot of things that could cause reduced power, low box shouldnt make the engine feel restricted just less speed for revs

in 4th after 20 feet?

You sure you are not in low range and going downhill?

Cheers
Yes had it in low range to climb up all 4 ramps, with a degree of control, without spitting them out or pulling them under, anyway, was up a few months, when I brought it back and was driving in the yard I quickly realised, thats deffo not the problem, box would have blown lol.

? you could drive around in low for ever and all that would happen is youd be going much slower than in high

I'll run the codes tomorrow, and top up the box with oil, recon it should have taken about 2.7L or more, but as the front only was on ramps recon only about 2.4L in will top it up on the flat tomorrow, think there was plenty of oil for mot n back.

What's that "correct grade of 95 (not ep)" ? and what did you top up with ep95??? cos if you meant manual gearbox the correct stuff is MTF94 and for diffs and transfer box is 75W90

as about the other problems with TC and HDC if both warnings are on without the ABS it's a complicated issue
