Hi all, just putting the genuine o/s fr. d/shaft back in due to a clicking noise I'm trying to track down (shaft was changed for a Bearmach one a couple of years ago due to a different noise which turned out to be a 700 mile old drop link).
Would there be anything obvious where the shaft goes in if it is a failing IRD ? I can’t see or feel any play in there & the IRD oil is as clean as a whistle but also can’t detect any play in the two shafts so any advice would be really appreciated, many thanks.

If oil is OK then probs not Ird.

Does it click in straight line or when turning?

From my experience. Clicking when turning is outer joint. Vibration is inner joint.
Bit more info on the clicking would be helpful.

Hi, I'm glad you think the fact the oil is clean (& no debris on the magnetic drain plug) the IRD should be ok as that's what I was thinking/hoping. The clicking is in a straight line at about 30-40 mph, it also has a vibration through the steering wheel at 70mph & makes a creaking, dry joint type of noise occasionally when reversing off my drive on lock, the creaking noise I'd put down to the fr. right suspension top mount, which now, along with the damper is all new (still got the other side to do). The GKN shaft is now fitted but I've noticed the lower arm bush, the one it pivots on, is a bit perished & the ball joint boot is perished/split (I replaced the ball joints last Aug. & they've only done about 3,000 miles:mad:) so now I've ordered a pair of lower arms along with ARB bushes (the ARB has purple powerflex ones I fitted in 2018) which I'll fit when they arrive along with the new L/H damper & top mount.
I really appreciate your input & when I've managed to road test it I'll let you know if all is well, all the best.

The Powerflex ARB bushes I fitted approx 4 yrs ago are fine but the lower arm bush & ball joint boot are kaput so just waiting on my parcel so I can put it back together & hopefully cure the creaking along with the clicking noise from the d/s I've put back in, fingers crossed.

What make were the boots and bushes or did it come as a complete arm??

I had a similar set that cracked up and the bushes tore away and I got a replacement set for free with a reason of 'wrong chemical mix' in the material.
That was IM Axles.
