Hi, I own a 2010 defender 90 tdci. And I started to run into a problem with my driver's door. It started happening a while back and would fix itself here and there, but now it doesn't work.

The driver's door will not lock with the key fob. It works when I use the key, which locks and unlocks the whole car. I thought it would be a bad actuator, so I bought a new one and the problem is still there. So I am guessing it is more to do with the wiring.

It is the main actuator, so it has 4 wires. When plugged in, if I move it up and down, it will lock and unlock the car. But if I use the key and listen to it, there is no movement. That's on the new one and the older one.

Does anyone know what it could be?

Ps. I have had cruise control and an immobiliser install but that was a while ago and I don't think it is related.

I had the same issue with my 2010 defender on the passenger side door earlier this year
I replaced the actuator and it solved the problem
You say 4 wires ? my connection only had 2.
It is a genuine part or after market ?

The one for the drivers door has 4 pin connections when I removed my old one. I have a feeling it might be a loose wire somewhere.

It may well be a broken wire where it runs from the pillar to the door. From memory I think they are solid wire and break through stress flexing over time. Just a question of finding the break and repairing.

Key fob & central locking, cruise control, immobilisers and 4 electrical wires in the door .... these new Defenders talk a different language
Completely agree, what was wrong with the little piece of metal rotated by a key to prevent the handle being lifted up!

Why would you use a key when a screwdriver is at hand to turn that little piece of metal as most thieves used in the day

On a lighter note as you mention in the day thieves used to carry screwdrivers. Today it is all laptops and radio transmitters to mimic remote and keyless locking, you might find the old fashioned version is more secure today. No-one carry's a screwdriver for breaking and entering anymore try breaking into and starting an old land rover with a mobile phone!
