Freelander 1 door pannels and tweeter covers on a three door

While at the mot station today they had a Freelander in , a year older than mine and it had full size door panels were mine has the two piece type . Question is are they interchangeable ? I know I would have to move the window switches but I prefer the full size ones . Also if its possible I want to grease the cables or what ever controls the central locking , mine looks like it judders a bit and is slow when I press the key fob . On my sons his is much smoother and quicker so do I need to take the tweeter cover off to get the plastic door trim off and if so how ? I seem to remember my lad putting his door panel back on and breaking two little plastic lugs underneath the tweeter cover

I don't know about changing the door trims but the tweeter covers have to be prised off from the top, then lifted up. Most people break the top pillar when removing them.

Thank you but do I need to take the tweeter covers off to take the door trim off to get at the central locking ? I am going to have a look over the weekend I just didn't want to break anything else on it

I can grantee if the book says 30 mins to do a job on a landy it will take me 60

Sorry, I can't remember and Bertie was sold a few weeks ago.

From memory though I think it is very easy to break the tweeter covers if you don't take them off first.

No you can take the lower trim off without removing them but might be wise to do so.

That's correct. Only the 5 door FL1s have full door cards, 3 door have half door cards.
The 3 door's are designed to be more of a lifestyle vehicle, hence the easy clean but less luxurious interior.

It's all a matter of taste of course, but I prefer the look of the early FL1 3-door interior: its more fun!

I had the two panel door trims on my Freelander 3 door. If your concerned about the window and door mechanisms operating and want to make 'em last, I suggest you give this a go. I took out all the screws, one by one, that hold both panels in place and used a cheap tin of Tesco's Maintenance oil. Gave a liberal squirt of spray through each of the screw holes using the red straw nozzle from every angle to ensure complete coverage on the inside. (The oil eventually drips out through the drainage holes). I never had any issues with any of the mechanisms. The autumn's a good time to do this. Also apply glycerine to all the door/window rubbers to stop frost damage when opening doors in icy conditions. It's about £1.50 for a bottle from the local chemist.
