Fed up with these door locks!!!

Is this a common problem or is it just me. Everytime I close the door and lock it with the key, I am able to unlock it with the key without any issue, however if I accidentally close the door by the handle with the button pushed in and then lock it as normal, can I hell unlock it again using the key, instead I have to try and lift the lock from the inside. I've tried replacing the lock but the exact same problem still occurs.

What type of lock ?

Lift handle or push button ?
 
If my old grey cells are working correctly, there's a short, bent bit of wire-type link which should prevent the latch from engaging if the botton is pressed whilst shutting the door.

Have a look to see if it's obviously there ... or not.

If it isn't you should find two holes about 1/2 apart where the link goes.

I think the sooner I get the old girl over to you, the more happier I will be. :)
 
My 90 is the same, lock it from outside you need to unlock from outside. Lock from inside you need to unlock from the inside. Iv the lift up handles on my 90 !!

Mine won't event do that, I have to use a screwdriver and wedge it in the mechanism and lift the small locking pin.

I'm rather keen on Central locking, however the problem isn't the barrel or key, it's the way the lock mechanism operaters!! :(

But if it is only ever operated by the central locking motor it will always work the same. My alarm blipper works the central locking and electric windows so I never use my key other than for the safari door BUT within the next few days I should have that working with it too.

No, if you touch the button the motor detects it and the controller shuts it. Works on mine.

I actually bought this:

Car Alarm R. Engine Start +3D Central Lock AL669W-RUC3D | eBay

which is the complete system. The cost is £78.25 inc postage but it is a fully fledged alarm system inc ultrasonics, knock sensor, central locking, siren etc etc

If you ask them when you place the order they will replace the standard siren with a battery backed up siren at no additional cost.

If you want electric windows too then you need to add their roll up kit which is another £17 and a generic window kit from ebay costing £50 I will then tell you how to wire it all up.

The kit includes 3 motors which is enough for the safari door too but to include the central locking compatible safari lock mechanism is another £45

After stripping the door down and replacing the lock, (all tested and working before it went on) can someone please tell me YDFNL the thing refuses to work off the key?

The catch on the bulkhead frame is attached to a piece of chequer plate, and I drilled and bolted it together, which stiffened it up OK. Ideally there should be a piece welded in, but that will come later!

At least we got it to the stage where the door catch does a double click on closing, and it doesn't fly open on it's own!

All of the bits were put back in the right places, so any ideas from anyone would be helpful at this stage, as LF is unable to lock up his baby ... and it's quite a nice one!
