First image should be the beast i have now got to play with.

The second image is of the door lock solenoid
this passenger one is bust, i have been quoted £100 for a new one
have seen them for £20 ish on flea bay(could also be bust)

Is it possible to or has any one stripped one of these down to repair it
or are they designed to not fix ??

Even less from Maplin, U don't say what the problem was but there's only a mini electric motor inside so not much to go wrong, they can seize but that can be sorted easy if it's a slave, the master has a bit more work as it also has a micro switch inside.
So yes it is possible fix, although they are not designed to be fixed.

on pushing the key fob - the push rod does not operate enough to unlock the lock,

the push rod is easy to move by hand also applied wd40 for hell of it.

it's as though on half power - have been told that one of the windings has burnt out.

will phone maplins in morn

Fit the actuator back and try adjusting the actuators mounting plate a few mill either way it has elongated holes to to that, it a fine line with the adjustment between working correctly or not. You will have to do that adjustment with a replacement actuator and if the existing one still shoots the rod then the nothing wrong with the motor, it's a brushless inductive motor so the coil is only has a single winding.
 
I replaced the rear driver's door lock actuator with a second hand one I got off fleabay for a tenner and have had no problems with it. Just get one from somebody on fleabay who's got good positive feedback and you can't really go wrong. You will have to do some minor rewiring if you get one from Maplins, so I would go for fleabay IMO.

will you be doing a "how to" thread for this?
Both rear door ones don't work and I need tyres all round so a cheap fix for the central locking would help loads.
 
I've got similar problem with mine and I just hope it isn't the infamous lock spring. Press fob and button comes up but drops down slightly so have to hold it up to open door. Really cba to do spring so hopeing adjusting actuator sorts it

Snifflebags has the same problem - spring is OK and an actuator change made no difference :eek:.
 
I picked one up from Maplins today (they only had one in stock) I'm going to have a go fitting it tomorrow. anyone got any tips befofe I make a start1
 
It's pretty much straight forward after doing mine last w/end.

I had to glue 3 door fasteners back on after snapping them off on removing the inner panel.

if there is a next time i would cut the wires that need soldering at the old unit rather than try to unplug the connector which is buried in the door(scraped knuckles)

10mm socket + extension bar - posy screwdriver - soldering iron - glue

before you put the door panel back on - fix the long inner pull handle in place in order to get the moveable bracket in the right place - no access to alter after panel is on

Health & Safety insists on at least one cup of tea whilst doing this job

OK. Ive got the latch and central locking "lump" out of the drivers side passenger door and have the Maplin actuator. can anyone help me with advise on what I should be doing now. I'd like to try and get it back together before it goes dark.

Pretty straight forward job, remove door card and be carefull with blue clips. Undo 4 10mm bolts holding actuator in place and pull wiring through. Unclip the connector and take the lot to a work bench. Undo the 2 possy screws and fit new 1 from maplins in its place. What I did with wiring was cut plug off loom on car and 2 connectors on new actuator and using spade connectors connect them up. Took a few attempts to get wiring correct first time I tried that door unlocked and others locked. Red goes to blue. Use original connecting rods but adjust plate on car all the way to the right and it will work fine. Align door handle before fitting door card!

Did my passanger door one today, found an even cheaper option that maplins, ebay Item number: 290349164159, under 4 quid!! And only took a couple of days to arrive

Hi there

How did you get on with the ebay actuator; did it work ok? Also any tips with the wiring for this one (I ordered a couple today)?
