Doing the little jobs as you do when you get a 'new' vehicle, to cut a long story short, I find the door lock is nackered!
Its the mechanism the loks around the doorframe pin, the handle(s) are o.k. stripped the door cards off, as the door was very difficult to open, and the lock was on its last legs!
WD40'ed the lock, got it working easier to shut, now the bugger wont open at all!
The rod works the lever on the mecanism but the rod that goes into the block to work the parts that opens the door moves to its full extent but seems to be detatched to anything inside the block.
Doors shut and I cant open it, even to replace said lock, any-one have any trade secrets they might share with me please?
Short of cutting the door off..................................................?:violent:
Cheers

Try pulling up on the lock button while working the latch. If it works, then you need a new doorlock spring. You'll need them on all the doors eventually, buy a full set , available on ebay.
If it doesn't work, get a new door, cut the old one open and operate the latch from inside.

I'm thinking along those lines, if I remove the seat I think I get enough room to cut the inside door web and rivet it back when finished.
Not enough Disco 1's in breaker around here, let alone a siler one, the vehicle is too good to start putting odd coloured panels on, and re-spaying will cost too much.

Oh well, I finished thinking and did it!
Had no choice, the lock was siezed solid.
Lucky the local breakers had a Disco in with a complete door, just wrong colour, but you cant have everything!
Took all of 15 minutes to get it off the donor vehicle, but a different story getting my one off.
Had to cut a hole throught the outer skin, ruined a bloody good door, but it was the only way to get at the lock.
Then I had to chisel out all the plastic of the lock body, bend out the metal casing and work away until I could chop and release the claw round the door frame pin!
The claw was siezed solid on it's spindle, thats why it strained the key barrel and eventually broke it, I was just unlucky to get it right on its last knockings, if I'd bought it 1 week later.....................
Even after I smashed everything off around it it was still stuck, there was no way it was going to release..
I dont think the bloke who sold it knew this though.
Any way, it took 1/2 hour to fit the replacement door, only problem is a blue door dont go with a silver body!!!!
Rub down and primer up tomorrow.
So, I have a few good bits like electric mirror, actuator, window, lifter etc for spares looking on the bright side.

If the spare leccy mirror is passenger side off a 300tdi and you want to sell it then please let me know as I'm after a good condition mirror for my tdi.
Carole.
