door hinge fitting to new pillars

Hi, I'm new here so hi to everyone and sorry if this is an old subject...
I have just removed the doors from my series 2a so that I can sort out the rusty door pillars.
In the process the captive nuts have fallen inside the pillars. I'm going to replace the pillars so no real problem there. However, I've realised that any new door pillars will not have captive nuts built in.
Now, I know you can buy new individual captive nuts, but here's the problem: - The face of the series 2 hinge that mates to the door pillar is completely flat, - there is no recess to accommodate the part of the captive nut that lies on the outside of the pillar. Furthermore, I cannot find a gasket or shim designed to make up the difference anywhere.
Does anyone have any experience of this or any bright ideas?

Iirc the captive clips on with the nut inside the pillar.

Yes, I realise that. It's the clip that's the issue. There's no recess for it in the pillar or the hinge. With the hinge bolted up tight there's still a 1 or 2mm gap all around the fixing - like having a spacer washer between the hinge and the pillar. Aside from looking odd, the hinge is going to move/rock with the force of the door opening and closing.
Is there something obvious I'm missing?

Helo nogbad,watch out for nogin the --- well you know who.When rebuilt with series 3 type pillars,foot and top bulkhead piece you end up with two layers of steel at the hinge points and the clip can go between them.cheers

I can see what you mean, but I think the whole pillar is going to be replaced so there'll be just one layer of steel. The only thing I can think of is to make some kind of gasket/shim, but this seems a bit heath robbins.
