The doors that were fitted to my series have the usual rot along the bottom. They are generally not in great condition at all.

I bought a couple of repair sections a while ago, but still haven't got round to doing anything with them.

Can anyone here post any advice or photos on how you have done these.

Something I did consider was separating the two pieces of the repair section. I would then cut away as much rust as I could, then weld just the u-section piece over the top of the bad part. Although this is not a proper fix, I thought it would probably look nicer than it does at the moment. The problem is lack of solid metal to actually weld anything to. The vertical sections are also flaky up to about two inches from the bottom.

Does anyone have suggestions?

Carefully bend the alloy back little at a time to remove the door skin , warm it a little if necesary.
The door sections that you buy are longer than the width so should be able to use some for the verticals.
When you get the skin off you will likely find the back is rusted out also on the frame.

I cut the bad parts out today. The strip of aluminium that folds over the steel at the bottom were also rotten and falling apart.

I will probably weld the steel sections in and put a row of pop rivets through from the outside into the back of the steel repair section. I know i's not how it was done originally, but there isn't much else to hold the aluminium skin to the frame anymore.

I did think of that, but I changed my mind as the ones I have are the right colour for the vehicle. I don't have the facilities for spray painting, not to mention getting the colour right.

If the Alloy looks ok from the outside buy a tube of Tiger seal and mastic it back to the steel will look much better than rivets.
This is the stuff the boy racers stick there spoilers on with will be stronger than original and will seal it to stop the water getting between the steel and alloy.
Mind once done there is no removing it.

Thanks for the replies.

If I went for a new set of doors, does this mean that I would have to re-align everything again? Surely new ones would vary slightly in dimensions.
