Got her today, shes a 03 plate V8 4.4 ogue with what i think is all the extras avaliable and i love her!

So shes already throwing me a few tasks requireing attention! ive had the dreaded air suspension message thrown up - do i need a PC hook up to reset this or can it be done with out?

cheers guys!

Pics please ??? Lol

Is that suspension error something like" air susp inactive" ?

You will need to plug it in to see what errors are stored ?

If you got it today and already have a massive fault, take it back to the dealer and get them to repair it under warranty.

I would say that its no more than a tired pump if the fault clears after a re-start, kits are now available to rebuild, but as Bix says, take her back if its a dealer or if private hassle them for a wedge of cash.

And just to add to your list, take of the engine cover and have a feel of the two 1" dia breather pipes that dive down the back of the engine. If they are a bit sticky, pencil in a day to replace these and the smaller ones that go to the oil seperator buried at the back of the engine. Oh and while your in there, take off the spark plug covers (2x M6 bolts) and check for oil in the spark plug wells.

First thing to do with any Range Rover is open the wallet and buy the best (and biggest) battery that'll physically fit. that's all your car may need to stop the suspension faults appearing.

You will need a diagnostic to clear the EAS Inactive problem. As above (all good advice) it's a good idea to take it back to the Dealer.
I have T4 Testbook, as an Independent. The first thing that it looks at are all the ECU's faults stored. There will be many mostly because the battery has been off. You need the side lights on whilst doing the test, seats and steering will move. The Stealer should look through all faults logged and clear those available and then go for the EAS side to sort that out. Its unlikely that they will let you see this but ask them to print off a list of known faults and those corrected (its your car after all). Be interested if they do, they should! T4 has a print facility. I always let my customers see the screen and explain what is happening. The customer tension normally disappears as they can understand what is going on. Dealers don't normally let you see anything as if its a 'black art' which it isn't (some so called Dealer mechanics don't know what they are doing anyway and its a good excuse to replace things that don't need replacing!)
Once sorted you should have a very fine motor car. Good Luck

ps: If worried about the wife, just take her for a Sunday run and try to stop her from waving to the peasants like the Queen. She will be sold.!

Check for water in the spare wheel well and behind the nearside trim in the boot, any sign of water and you will have problems with the sat nav audio etc. If there is water in the well, check the connectors to the EAS pump and at the back of the well.
As others said, if you got it from a dealer, take it back for them to fix, it's their problem, sale of goods act, fit for purpose etc.

RESULT!!!!

just a fuse, had a popped 10A in the space for a 30A, popped a 30A in and shes good as gold! BIG GRIN

Now to order up something to get at the codes, i see there seems to be the two different ones to go for, any reccomendations?

Basic fault reading and clearing including EAS calibration, the RSW all comms is wicked

Perfect for even non- computer literate of us ;)

Proper diagnostics would be the blackbox, faultmate extreme. Also some amazing kit ;)

How did that fuse get in there? :p Good that your first fix is an easy one though :)
And yes diagnostic equipment is really useful (although I am still refusing to get one! :p ) since generally the computer will point you straight to the fault.

Wouldn't it be great if there were just an app or bit of PC software for diagnostics.. any programmers on here? XD

There is a piece of simple PC software.... The all comms !

The hardware is just a simple OBD to USB adapter to connect the car to the laptop

All Comms is an awesome piece of kit....

Lacks the ability to Change Vehicle Settings (Other than EAS Calibration and Steering Wheel Movement) but as a Fault Reader and Fault Clearer.....it is very good and intuative to use.

The Hawkeye is good with Live Values but it lacks the EAS Calibration which is a huge let down for the price....if the Legend that is Storey Wilson can build it into the All Comms.....why the mega Giant of Bearmach haven't deludes me...

The IIDTool by Gap Diagnostics is a very powerfull device but it uses the Vehicle Message Centre to provide the screen (No PC needed at all) but what if the pixels are fecked or the Instrument Panel is fecked hence why you are diagnosing it....?? but it is a powerful device...

The Hawkeye and IIDTool are VIN locked whereas the All Comms isn't and you can use it to help others (I have a few times- pat on the back to me :D:D )

The Faultmate is just truly awesome - out of my price range at the moment, but the moment I can afford it - that is the shizzle.

Whilst it locks to one VIN you can get it unlocked for Multiple Vehcile for a small fee....

Is there a way to unlock it without the 1.5k euro price tag that BBS are quoting (and that's just P38s!). I would love to be able to help out others with my faultmate, but no-way can I justify that expense for it!!! :(

2.5k All p38s, RRC, D1 & 2, FL to 2001 and Defenders to 2007
5k for above plus up to 2005 (not canbus)
5.8k for can bus (only I think)

ouchy if you're not in trade!

That would be illegal obviously ;)

Im sure anything is possible... But

The faultmate is pretty high security when it comes to its licensing which can be a bit of a pain in the back side at times.

Every bit of hardware in your car is licensed so if you was to change a piece of faulty equipment the faultmate then won't work with the new hardware until its re-licensed to it, which can be a drawn out process

Those prices you are quoting are for multi vehicle, for a single P38 licence it's much less, likewise the single vehicle licence for the L322, although the price is higher than the P38.
I paid less than £800 for a Faultmate MSV for P38 diesel not VIN locked. OK it won't do the V8 but I would not go near a V8 with a barge pole, also it only covers late P38 for some things. Other modules can be added as I find the need for not a lot of money.

Agreed, I got my VIN locked full fat extreme for around £700, but would like to be able to help out others, which I can't do with the VIN locked version. Saint stated it could be done for a small additional fee, but as far as I can see on BBS's store, the multi vehicle P38 only is around 1.5k (although typically I can't now find that price to see what it covered!!)

I'll stress though, whether it be morally wrong or illegal, I wouldn't be looking to rip off a company like BBS, who, despite relatively high price tags, save a lot of us an awful lot of money from main stealers :D

I was hoping Saint was aware of a valid but affordable method.

I guess I should have put small in quote marks to indicate a minor level of sarcasm....

The only valid method would be to open the wallet to BBS.....

Yes they are exepnsive - but by feck they are good!!
