Doggy fuel gauge!

p38 diesel cut out the other day whilst driving due to, what i later discovered to be a lack of diesel :doh:, even though my gauge and trip computer said i had over 110 miles of fuel left in her. must admit that the car had been stationary for a month. i now cant trust my fuel gauge anymore but looking for a solution to my problem. about a year ago i had all pump and lift pump fixed due to another problem so don't think its that. please help you wonderful people :D
 
Re-set the trip each time you fill up and re-fuel when the trip gets to 400 miles, assuming you brim the tank. I never trust fuel guages. A miss reading guage could be due to a poor earth connection somewhere.
 
couldnt dind a doggy fuel guage but will this do ?

It is very easy to get a new pump/fuel sender with a bent float arm. You should be very careful not to bend the float arm as you remove the old pump, and to make sure the new arm sits at the same attitude and height at rest, as the old one before refitting.

I was going to suggest a bent/sticky float arm too. Happened on my old RRC, the float decided to not float any more - really helpful.

I always run with the aircon on but in manual not auto mode. Turning the aircon off barely makes a difference to the MPG unless it's very hot in summer. My figures are a long term average. I live in rural France so no traffic jams and the shortest run I do is about 5 miles, but mostly it's 20 mile runs. In the UK the figure dropped to 21mpg in the traffic on the south coast, but including the autoroute run there and back the overall average was 26mpg:D:D
