Series 3 bulkhead bonnet wings and grill but could all have been fitted to replace rotten series 2 bulkhead.
You would need to be able to examine vin number, engine , clutch actuator and chassis to see if series 2.

Looking at this on ebay but it doesn't look right to me as it's stated as 1963 series 3, does such a thing exist as I thought they didn't introduce series three until early 70's?
Do you think it's just had a plate swap on a later car to get it tax exempt?

a later one .. as in early defender 90/110?

series chassis, leafs, dash, etc etc .. deffo not an early defender

Series 3 started in 72 I think.
Mine is a series 3 built in 75 registered in 80..... That's what's on the log book, but it has a dynamo, wing mirrors, and top catches on the window sliders, so I'm guessing it's really a series 2a
I'd say if your looking to buy it, buy on condition not what the log book tells you

Doesn't look dodgy at 1st look, if your Intrested in it best call the seller and ask, could be a typo as said, that's defo no a ringer I don't think.

As with all land rovers people try to modernise. Look at the amount of people who put the puma bonnet buldge on a Tdi defender.

Making series 2's look like series 3's was common practice back in the day but I would say it is a genuine series 2a. No rear fuel tank and no mountings for one either.
Might be the owner isn't aware of the light positions of a series 2 or maybe they liked the looks of the series 3 and dash board so fitted it.
Nothing wrong with it overly as long as it's not a series 3 trying to get tax exemption

+1 it's definitely a series. And it's has a lot of series 3 bits fitted but the chassis still could be the 2a.
By calling ita series 3 maybe the seller is just making it obvious that's it's not an original series 2a

That chassis has the seams along the top (last picture) so must be a series 3, if I'm not mistaken. Series 3 grill, dash, bulk head, light position... My guess would be Series 3, but I'm no expert.

The more I look at it the more I think it's actually a series 3 with series 2 ID. Series 2 109's never had a Salisbury axle. The only series 2 bodywork looks to be the rear tub.

But why go to the effort to move the fuel tank under the seat?

Could be dodgy - says first registered in 72 but has a 64 reg no. Beware and check chassis number but this may be a ringer...
