Had my Defender 90 (1997) for 3 months now, still got the Sll though. Defender, gauges were reading high when I put heater blower on and gauge lights were dimming. Blower was losing fan speed with headlights on, intermittent wiper stopped all together. Remedy. I took the gauges plug apart and ran the main loom earth wire to one of the bolts inside the dash, removed the blower earth returns and put them on a rotary swith and ran a new earth to the steel fascia centre console. This has cured all of the earthing issues now. I did check and renew the main earth cable from battery to chassis but this made no difference. Also fitted LED's into all the gauges so now I can see what speed I'm doing at night and how much fuel I have left. And for those viewing in black and white, the Tonka is Red and Black

Jolly good. I'm interested in that shed - is that a line shaft running overhead? You know, the kind of thing they used to drive machinery off in days gone by.

Yes it is. My workshop was born as a stable in 1903, sometime around 1920's it became a small engineering factory followed by a grinding factory. In 2000 it was left empty and a firm of solicitors moved their paperwork into it. It became too damp for that and it was left empty for 5 years and I found it just 1 minute down the road from my house so I rented it, fixed the leaks and moved my cars and tools into it and now it's a garage repair shop for family and friends.

That garage is ace. I would love somewhere like that.

How much do you pay if you don't mind me asking?
that space costs me £300 a month plus water and electricity, but it does have 3 phase for the ramp. I reckon a bargain for a city location.

pretty good imo.

i havent been able to find something half that size with 240 let alone 3 phase for less than 800-1000 a month round my way lol

I use exactly those spots for earths and I added a common earth multi point for future switches etc. Great workshop and bargain price. My Mate has just inherited an old bus station. It's massive and has inspection pits too so now there's 8 Landys in there in various states with all.of our combined tools. It's a right laugh when we're all in there tinkering.
