Bought a 1965 series 2a "refurbished" as 2.5Td defender front end LWB 109" from this guy- can we name names? He advertisess using three letters only- and paid handsomely for it. Reckons he's a refurbishment artist, more like a something-else artist. My first foray away from 2.25 petrol end of things. In the 13k miles since collection :steering problems-pump mismatched to after market PAS kit, he didn't use the kit supplied version; alternator failed; transfer gearbox collapsed; cylinder head gasket blown. My confidence gone.
Wrote to this geezer after the first prob. - steering pump issue-never even replied. Only got a confirmatory 'phone call from his PA saying she thought he'd "look into it". That was last year.
Anyone else used this geezer, or contemplating so doing. Let me know if you want details!
PS what are the problems in head gasket repair for the old 19J engine?
