Following an old thread, Which Wading Kit, I've taken advice given and gone for bits from Parkindustrial (just ordered so no comment on service or quality yet!). None of the ebay kits had what I wanted, all seamed to miss something out, which meant I was off to a wholesaler anyway!

Anyway, went for:
1/8 bsp 6mm push fit male elbow x 4
6mm push fit Y connectors x 2
8mm - 6mm reducer, to step down fuel tank breather hose
6mm push fit 4 way/cross conector.

Idea being, I'll run three 6mm pipes up into the engine bay (using Y connectors to join the axle breathers and the gearbox/tranny breathers and the step down from the fuel tank) join at the 4 way and run one 6mm pipe up the outside of the snorkle.

Not sure whether I'm making a mistake putting everything into one 6mm pipe. Is this enough of a breather?, so:

Question/opinion please:
Is it ok to reduce the size of the fuel breather as above, or should I extend as 8mm.
Is it ok to run 6mm from the 4 way connector or should I run a larger 8mm pipe from this point.

hi mate

your plan sounds great

parkindustrial are great, expect your items very soon.

i ran an 8mm from the tank, but then again a petrol makes much more fumes than a diesel so your 6 might be ok.

if youre concerned about how much suck you can get through a 6mm, like i was, run 2x6mm up the snorkel.

tbh you want to keep you fuel breather separate, so the perfect job IMO is 2x6mm (gearbox/tranny & both axles) and 1x8mm direct from the tank. but 6mm will probably be ok for the tank on a diesel.

hope that helps, cheers

Cheers Mr Noisy. Will consider keeping the fuel breather separate as you suggest. I'm only dropping the fuel line to 6mm to avoid buying separate 8mm pipe, but, I guess its only a few squid, insignificant in the scale of general landy expenses:rolleyes:

Hi stu

Yeah park are very quick

As above I reckon your diesel will be fine on 6, I'd recommend keeping it separate otherwise you will get diesel fumes in your casings, could degrade seals etc.

Cheers

Cheers chap, however, having looked on workshop manuals and stuff, looks like I have a breather that runs into the fuel filler pipe. Is there another breather? (note. I'm asking before getting covered in ****e looking for it!)

the breather that runs to the top of th fille neck is the air return breather for when filling with fuel

that has to let the air out as you replace it with fuel, very quickly. hence, that is a 20mm piece of pipe.

the little 8mm breather is just to let a few fumes out here and there, and also to let air in as your engine sucks fuel out of the tank.

theyre separate items, and its only the 8mm one that needs modding, when the fuel cap is screwed on the oher breather is sealed anyway.

cheers

i didnt extend my fuel breather, got stuck in lake at parkwood, and havnt had any symptoms as yet,,is it worth me extending it noisy

who knows mate, maybe you were lucky, maybe it has a bit of water in the tank??? i know on my dosco it had some sort of valve/connector on the breather pipe, not sure what it did though.

most people dont extend them tbh, but i thought it was pretty obvious that it needed doing, and for what it costs i considered it a no brainer.

better safe than sorry, and for about a fiver, why not.

cheers :)

I've not extended the fuel breather, never felt the need after reading post's from some of the longer term member's on here. Having said that my disco's not been sat in any deep water, as I've always got through without stopping.

Cheers Gents.

I am going to extend the tank breather. As has been said, for a couple of quid, why not. And, I was in some very deep water the other week.

Now I just have to find the little bugger:eek:

Right. I'm stuck. Where the flippin heck is the fuel tank breather hose:doh:. The only one I can see is the breather to the filler inlet.

MHM - Well thats what I thought, But others appear to suggest there's an 8mm breather somwhere aswell:confused: Is there some slightly less than accurate advice being offered:rolleyes: If this is the only one, I see no reason to extend it anywhere as it is not open ended.

Yeah i did think the other day, I was talking about my experience with my disco, I forgot that we weren't in the disco section! That said, I am surprised there is no other breather or how else would air get into the tank to replace the fuel?

As I understand it, the tank will vent via the beather pipe to the filler hose and then via filler cap. It must do if theres no other vent hose.
