That tubular bit at the end should have stayed with the engine. Just above that bit is a clamp bolt at 90 degrees to the body. Undo that and tap the flang down off the distributer.

For some reason I can't get on the paddocks site. I think there were two types of distributer for the 2.25, Lucus and Ducelier, mostly they were Lucas. Does your's have a manufacturer name on it? I replaced mine with an electronic one but I can't remember who the maker was and my eBay purchase records don't go back far enough to check. If I remember correctly I put my landy details on the site checker to get the right one.

Thinking about it, I reckon mine was an Accuspark dizzy. It was certainly an improvement over the old one.

The Lucas and Ducellier diizzies are interchangable. The ducellier ones were standard fitment to 2.3 and 2.5 engines and were an 'upgrade' to older units. Which is better? I don't think there is any noticeable difference, other forum users may be able to offer pros and cons of each design. Electronic versions are better though.

Got it off, wouldnt tap down had to put it in vice and get grips on and twist it off.
No one seems to have the gasket to put under the flange, unless the part number has changed. will just gasket sealant do ?

Thanks everyone , another problem solved unless I brake something putting it back together
Anyway Im seriously thinking about biting the bullet and getting my engine rebuilt by a local company.
Not sure if I should leave the old one on or weather they will change it or not, might give them a ring to see exactly what they do on a Rebuild, Anyone had one done before ? not sure if they take the full engine with everything on it or if I have to take most things off.

They will prefer a bare engine. They will remove stuff but will charge more. Before you give them the engine, see if you can find any previous customers to get some feedback. At least try googling them. If you give them the engine with everything still on, take some pictures before it goes

There is 2 local rebuilders near me, this one has loads of good feedback , have been warned off a few people not to go anywhere near the other.
Might give them a ring tomorrow or try and call in to speak to them.

If your going to get it rebuilt, you might as well.ask how much to convert the head to lead free petrol

Was thinking about that the other day, had me a bit worried as I thought it had to be done, but after googling theres loads of people not bothered with there's and had no problems.
I will ask about it, Depending on how much extra it will be

Yes, mine isnt lead free. I use the additive and havent had any problems.

Co!

Missed the rebuilders today, dont open till Monday so will speak to them then.
Or Is there any Engine Rebuilders on here who want a Job ? preferably near ish to me.

Dropping Engine off at Rebuilders Tuesday, They strip down and clean all parts, New Head Gasket , Renew all seals and Timing Chain as Standard then if it needs anything bored or renewed the price changes. Could be anywhere from 1200 to 1600 depending if it needs new parts.
He said that they have done loads of these engines and parts are quite cheap for them, and after describing how well it turns ect, he recons it should be OK , so fingers crossed.
