Discovery TD5 Front Drive Shaft

Hi all, me front drive shaft has just thrown a wobble, have taken it off just until i get me new one.
Any reason why i cant drive it for a few days???

Just wanted to be sure.

Hmm. Don't know. I suppose with the front wheels no longer powered, they won't have any wheelspin so the traction control shouldn't suddenly grab the front brakes. Hopefully someone with more of a clue will jump in this thread!

I'm assuming you mean the front propshaft?? Unless you have centre diff-lock you will get no drive through ANY wheels.

Hi Dave and thanks for reply and yes you are correct, no drive at all, have done a bit of research and went under the car with a 10mm spanner and turned on my diff lock. (cant believe its fitted and all bar fitting a cable we could all have diff locks).
Anyway, can i damage anything with having to do 300 miles before i get the new prop, trouble is i live in the middle of nowhere.

The key to doing this safely is to drive smoothly and don't demand too much of the engine. Bearing in mind that the engine's power is usually split between front and rear diffs, you'll need to be as light as possible on the throttle if you don't want to break anything.

Go gentle beacause of the flexible coupling on the rear propshaft and rear diff to as that will be an increased weak spot

Hi Guys
Can the back propshaft be taken off instead, without breaking anything, obviously need to enable the CDL but would this work.

You'll have no probs, just dont be hard on the throttle

I ran my D1 for years without it, all i noticed was that the rear propshaft rubber coupling wore out sooner than normal

All the drive though one shaft i suppose
