Hi all,
I could do with a bit of advice on a seat swap for my 300TDI, it's a 1996 three door with the Commercial body(van)
It only has the front 2 tilting seats which I'd like to swap for leather ones.

I know I could have them retrimmed at Exmoor for £600, not my first choice, but what else can I do?

Is it possible to get hold of some used, most seem to be from 5 door models, would these bolt to the runners in the 3 door? Or if not would the seats and runners from the 5dr bolt to the floor, as I don't need access to the rear on mine?

I've seem seats that are from an ES premium, which look like P38a seats, could I possibly get these to fit?
Any help would be grateful, any seats up for sale let me know.
Cheers
Iain

Hello And Welcome:D

As far as i know, 5 door seats should just bolt directly onto your seat mounting points, They should also mount onto your old seat frames so they can still be tilted:D

Sorry, no. The 5 door and 3-door seats are different fittings. However, with a bit of a 'landroverbotch' you can make them fit, I'm sure.

I can only go on my own experience, have recently sourced a 3-door driver's seat to replace my buggered one in the disco, and, having spoken to various supliers...

I have recently swapped my 5 door seats with some out of a 3 door, there is no difference in the fittings on the base of the seat, just 4 tork bolts to undo from the runners (bit fiddly)

Well excuse me, Sorry, No indeed!!!!!

Oh, and do try and finish what you were saying.........

...who all suggested the 5 door seats fittings were different - I can only go by their (supposed) 'experience'. No offence intended..... today.

I know the fittings are different, as the 3dr tilt and the 5dr don't, but the seats themselves, are they the same? Wouldn't any Disco seat bolt to any Disco subframe?
Anyone got a parts list? as that'd show different part numbers or not.
Or anyone with a 5dr disco that lives near me with ten minutes to spare?

I can't see land rover making 2 totally different seats when 1 wil do the job. Thats probably the reason why the lift handle is on the base of the mounting and not on the seat. I fitted Vauxhall Senator full leather seats into a defender. Had to remove the sudframe, completely dismantl and strip them then drill and bolt them to series 3 seat runners defore fitting them in the 110. So anything is possible if your prepared to experiment and modify.

I've had a day at the breakers and here's what I found.

3dr and early 5dr 300 tdi's had a narrower subframe, with the runners closer together than the later models. You can tell by the gap between the edge for the floor near door, later models only have about 2 inch strip of carpet, mine has the narrower subframe, with about 4 inches of carpet.

So I've a couple of options, source some narrower runner leather seats(they had 3 sets, all look knackered)

Replace the subframes with later 5dr ones or Rangie classic ones. This means drilling new holes, cutting carpets and if I ever wanted them to tilt to get into the rear, I'd be buggered.

Or fit a extender plate to the 3dr subframes which are already in, to fit the wider runners, I'd only need to fit the outer runners with two plates of around 2 inches.
I bought some ES Premium seats with Rangie subframes, this gives me a couple of options, I'll have a go at making up some extenders and see how they turn out.
I think it won't be to much hassle fitting them and they look stunning, but I'll have to sort the electrickery out as they are powered and I'm not to hot with wires!

Look under the carpet You may find the connectors for the heated seats are already in place. I have a 3 door but behind the switch panel for the electric windows are all the connectors for the 5 doors rear windows. Also whilst fitting towing socket to rear door discovered connectors for rear speaker.

I just made an adapter plate for my corbeau buckets from 6mm steel chequer plate ..

Easy job .. measure, drill, bolt plate to seat and bolt whole lot to seat base ..

Tip: make sure you bolt the seat to the plate first then to the base .. other wise getting the bolts to go in straight is a fricken nightmare upside down... Also have a few washers or nuts to hand for spacers so that the bolt heads holding seat to plate clear the runners ..

Cheers

I've managed to get the old seats out and I tried lining everything up, and they're a bit on the high side when I sat them on the 3dr subframes, so high I couldn't see out if the windscreen! Plus the motors snag the frames.

The Range Rover subframes will fit, with a big enough hammer, they don't quite line up to the floor strengthener behind the seat base, but with a bit of bashing will either fit or break.

I'm going to have a fiddle over the weekend, some other bits to have a stab at, egr thingy for a start and the spider unit is starting to play up.

Anyone off to Sodbury this saturday?
I've never been and wondered if it's worth going, will there be anything shiny for my wagon that I won't be able to resist?

I'm off to sodbury at the weekend meself .. dunno about shiny bits as most of the stalls are 'jumble stylee'

Last time some of the trade guys had pitches but its usually the smaller fabricators that do .. QT were there and offering discounts on usual pricing, southdown, 4x4rus to name a few ..

Worth going for a root around and to see everyones trucks ! There always something to buy innit !

Might have a run out and a rumage around, if I get something sorted to park me arse on.

So the verdict was that front seats from for example a '97 5-door won't fit straight onto the mechanism on a '97 3-door?
Sorry to bring back an old thread but I'm thinking of putting a half leather set into mine.
