Hey Guys, I currently own a 1995 DiscoveryI and Im going to buy a (1999-2000) Discovery II or a Range Rover, I don't know which one to pick! everyone tells me I should get a Range but I have after market parts on my Disco1 ans they will fit the Disco II but not the Range...do you think you can help me out and tell me which one to pick and tell me the pros and cons of each one and compare them for me...Thank You ...Obie p.s. What is the Fuel Millage differnce?????

What after market bits do you have that fit a disco 2,as the wheels dont fit the side runners are different and dont fit properly and the wheels are different,i would stick with what you have got unless you want spend loads on repairing range rovers disco 2 is ok but the engine wont last as long as an old 300 tdi,a lot of our customers wish they still had there old 300 tdis.its upto you what you by how deep are your pockets.

I have a Roof rack that will fit it and I have $700 tires that will fit it.. I beg to differ about the eingine my engine in my disco 1 is CRAP I replaced it once allready at 100K and why would I have to spend money fixing a Range Rover when nothing should go wrong with it..I would much rather have a disco II or a range I live in the USA maybe they are differnt here ,but here the Disco 1's are JUNK....and I tested how deep my pockets would go when I had to drop $4,000 in a new engine that still runs like crap:it has no HP and it sucks down a lot of gas and its too small for the size of the body in a disco1 and it spits and sputters and the thing has left me stranded 6 times.....again should I pick a Range Rover or a Disco II my keeping my disco 1 is out of the Question!!!!

Well i feel sorry for you having to replace your engine a bit low at 100k to go bang was it a diesel or petrol, sounds more like a petrol, of course range rovers go wrong just because they cost over 50k new they will still brake down as they are mechanical, not much difference between LR US and LR UK you normally have bigger bumpers and emissions are stricter in the US so they dont goes as well as UK models, alarm and programming is different due to noise regs,to answer your question i would have a disco petrol auto, still cheaper to maintain than a range rover.

Yea thats what Im going with I think a 1999 disco ..A guy talked me out of buying a Range Rover..and yes it was a petrol engine or we call it gas engine..I wish we had diesels here..what can I do to make mine go better restriction wise..I live in an area where it wouldn't matter about restrictions.....thanks Obie

yeah, stick with a discovery, I've had bad experiences with a DSE rangie which had air suspension probs time and time again, it had only done 65K and was letting me down all the time, its gone now!! The v8 engines are generally ok in the P38 rangies but the 4.0 usually gives less trouble than the 4.6, something to do with the block becoming porous in high milage vehicles I think. If they're on coils (an increasingly common conversion) and are looked after they should be ok, but having had a 300tdi disco, an HSE, a DSE and now a vouge, the disco was the easiest and cheapest to maintain and run. The DSE engines are under-powered and thristy.
