Discovery 4 tailgate switch dead

Hey folks I’m hoping for some help on solving the tailgate opening issue on my Discovery 4. The key fob switch is part opening the top section fine but the pedal switch on the bottom tailgate does nothing. I thought it was the usual corrosion issue on the switch so I changed it out for a new one. I used the kit where you just chop the wires local to the old switch and spliced in the new one. It was easy enough but unfortunately the problem is still there ie the switch is still dead. Any recommendations on where next to check ? Cheers in advance

Know it’s a daft question , Did u first check there was power to the switch with a multimeter
