Discovery 2 TD5 R380 - Bell Housing torque

Hi,
A couple of questions regarding torque settings:

1. I’m looking for the torque settings for the six bolts that go through the bell housing into the R380 gearbox.

2. The torque settings for the bell housing to engine.

In the manual I can see:
(Engine TD5 section)
Gearbox housing to engine bolts 50Nm

(Manual gearbox R380 section)
Gearbox to engine bolts 45Nm

Not too sure after looking at the manual, a little confused!

Hi, in which manual?... cos in RAVE it's 50Nm as well(nr 3)

Hello again!

This was looking at the manual you had sent me previously, I was also looking in the torque settings section at the beginning.

Then IMO the 45Nm thing might be a mistake... not uncommon in these manuals

Ok thanks, hopefully I’ll get round to fitting that thermostat soon!!!

I took mine off today, the M12x40 bolts were on at more than 50NM more like 250NM.
I needed my MAP torch on them.



Are you putting and 'gasket' between the faces ?

Hi,
Yes mine were on tight, but just about every bolt I’ve taken out of this motor seems like it takes about 250Nm or more to crack off!

I wasn’t aware of any gasket to fit, there wasn’t one one previously, was there one on yours?

Not a gasket, but a bunch of silicone ... and still the face showed evidence of water ingress.
I am assuming this was original ?

Interesting, mine had nothing on.

I'm leaning towards a light smearing of Hylomar Blue.
