Discovery 2 Rear Hubs

Hi all
I have a leaking rear hub on my 2001 td5, I have checked out how to replace it , but all the info says that I wiil need to have the drive shaft pressed out of the hub unit, and pressed in again to the new hub.
Does any one know if this can be done with basic tools, at home.... with a puller or something, or will I have to take it to a garage

If it is only the seal that is leaking then replace the seal here is the Land Rover part number FTC 4919.Why make the job harder for yourself.

The hub is an assembly of the hub flange and hub bearing and its these two that are pressed together, the hub should pull off the dive shaft splines, if stiff then a standard puller will work (smear with copper grease when putting back on). With the hub off you can get to the inner oil/grease seal (the hub is a sealed unit pre packed with grease) and also the hub to axle casing O ring which is probably the thing that is leaking the axle oil. If this is the case then no need to pull off the drive shaft as you can pull it all out from the diff a bit tricky getting back in, it has a C ring which will offer resitance pulling out and pushing in. If its the grease that is flying out from the outer seal then its recon hub or disassembly repack and new seals.
