Greetings all,
I bought a back up key for my Disco and it seems to be a copy came with two long codes.Lights up.

The label top code is NA7CD6AA7CD69FF and below is another one with lots of FFs.

I think the top one is the number I need for a nano com unit to program a new key. The key does not have a label inside on the PCB.

I think the code would be A7CD6A by looking at the top number. I worked this out from another key which did have a label on the PCB and a label with the two 16 digit ones.

I understand from watching videos thatI use the 6 digit code to programme it in.

I plan to hire a nano com for a day to do this, so need to be sure I am right and hope one of you clever men can tell me if I am wrong or have lost the plot .

I was going to buy a nano com,but was surprised they are very expensive, so cannot do this, hire is best I can do,....Hope you all can help?

Are you sure it is a proper key? there were some being sold that were neither D2 or Rover 75 keys, iirc they were mini keys of some sort. Does it look the same as your old key?

There are cheaper diagnostics that will do the job.....

Program a key using the 6 digit code? which ones?

Cheers

Scantool?

I meant Foxwell, sorry. They claim to be able to do it, although I haven't actually tried it, on mine. I don't think the earlier ones were that efficient at it but they have possibly updated the more recent ones. Need to contact them first before buying.

Thank you fo your reply..the key looks the same as my existing, it has Land Rover on it, but is a copy.It works in that it lights up.

If a scan tool would work i would be interested ,A Nanocom unit is £50.00 to hire and £100 deposit, but to buy about £390.I did try key locksmiths, but they seem to have units that will only work on vehicles up to 15 years old, hence my thought that Nanocom was the way to go.

Am I right about the six digit code by taking it from the 16 digit one,I assume all the programme units use these.?

I purchased a nancom specificaly because I wanted to be able to use the 6 digit code printed on the chip in the fob, at the time 5 Years ago it was the only unit I could find that would use the 6 digit code, now as @Stanleysteamer seems to thing he knows a viable option mayne that is OK. I do not know of other TBH. Hawkeye was meant to be able to use the barcode , but I have never used one to program a spare key.

I would look very carefully beore spending money on something unless the person who suggests it has given 100% guarantee that it will work and knows it does by first habd experience.

Ref the 6 digit code derived from the longer code, If you have seen this on your other fob then that may be a good lead, but I have never seen one to compare, sorry.

Does the internal chip etc look the same?

Cheers

Thank you Neilly ....I will be careful...I looked in to this big time and time and time again folk are saying Nanocom is the one to use with the 6 digit code.

I was let down by mobile key people, who say we can do it, then decide they cannot.

I hope my idea about the code is right, but do not want to spend £50 and find its wrong...I am hoping somebody will confirm on here they have done it like me.

What is the 16 digit code set for ?....if units take 6.
cheers

Agree entirely, about the use of any diagnostic tool for this particularly ticklish problem. I state again, I have never tried to do it and don't directly know any one who has. There are peeps on here with far more knowledge of electrickery than me. I DO have a Foxwell and it DOES so far do what it says on the tin. It is cheap enough to be worth buying for all it does anyway, and is recommended by one guy on here who is a real authority in things electronic, but if you bought one and it didn't work for your key you would need to get it in an email or something from Foxwell, that it should, in order to cover yourself.
Very best of luck mate.

Thanks Stanleysteamer,I have written to Foxwell and see what they say.

I found this posting on another site about getting the code from the 16 digit code. So maybe my logic is okay, its a bit complicated for me,but i could see the 6 digit code from a 16 digit one which was good....what do you think?

https://landroverforums.com/forum/discovery-ii-18/definitive-answer-key-fob-reprogramming-45509/

I discovered that a Nanocom unit for my V8 only comes with the body software,I am told have to pay more for the engine which sounds even more expensive option.

Our posts crossed and we both seem to have found the same thread!

That's a sh!t re the V8 engine!:(

Sounds great! didn't OP ask for someone who had already done it? If so this should give him more confidence.:):):)

He asked if getting the 6 digit code from the 16 digit code was feasible, to which I replied I was not sure.

I replied to your reference that and I quote.

Lots of forums say getting a key fob resynchronised is very difficult so i doubt I'd even try it myself.

to which i replied as I had stated above , I have done it and it is not difficult.

Do you see the difference???

Cheers
