Ok, it not that bad, those are niggly things. My D2 has been so much better than my old D1 (although I loved it to bits too).

What's the odd noise when turning?

Door latch - happened to both my Landies.

And 2002 is still 12 years old so is not going to be perfect. Don't throw the baby out with the bath water.

Tell you what, Silverlandy does NOT have leaky sunroofs either. :D

Anyhoo...care to share some pics??

This may sound stupid but it seems to work. I think the batteries in my fob need replacing, I used to be able to lock/unlock the Disco form in the house (through the window) It doesn't always work now, if it doesn't, hold the key fob to my head, press the button and it works! Not sure if me head acts as a bit of an aerial or not, or just the fact I live in the Forest :)

Don't give up hope on it just yet, get those little problems sorted and hopefully all should be well, plenty of people with the know how on here who can help out too.

Welcome to the world of Landrover ownership. You will find it becomes a labour of love.

48 hours in, boot won't open. Latch seems to be stuck. WD40 used, door card taken out, no joy. Now have no boot.

The stuck rear door catch is usually nothing to do with the workings inside the door.
Use a small screwdriver (or similar) to pop out the green oval badge from the outside of the cover over the reg plate lights. Have a bit of a poke around inside there and you'll probably find that the release handle has become just a bit stiff on its pivot bar. Give those bits a squirt with WD40 to free them up then use a "stiffer" lubrication such as a dab of engine oil or some spray grease.

Thinking about the key fob problem, the first thing I did when I bought my Disco 2 was to replace the battery (CR2032) in each fob, just in case.

It is definitely a case of dummy out the pram! It is the disappointment more than anything. 12 year old beast and there it certainly has its imperfections.

The boot is a massive pain in the arse not working and extremely unlucky to pack up in the 2 days I've had her. The main "****ed off factor" was missing a stag do yesterday through not being able to get in the sodding thing without the alarm going off and fear of parking up somewhere else, more remote maybe and be in the same boat! Silver lining is I now have the emergency code if this happens again and it worked wonders when I tested it earlier.

I guess its just the boot to sort! And hopefully the noise is just a noise!

Ooo and a Silverlandy too :p

Thanks Nick.

I must say, its raining heavily outside at present, my 300tdi would have a gear stick gaiter full of water. So far so good, no leakage on this new one. A positive!

Hi...I've got the same D2 as you and it looks great too. Had it now for 6 months & you wouldn't believe the amount of niggly little problems I've had to sort out. This morning for example I changed the transfer box oil myself for the first time.....took most of the morning but was great fun. I would advise people NOT to buy a D2 if you want a reliable daily runaround as they do give trouble.
Keep the faith.

Cars that work are BORING!!! Us boys need a hobby and stuff to fix, that's why I bought mine!!! Had a few niggles, but that's expected. I had more issues with my 2002 Golf!!!

Don't agree with these sentiments at all. Must have had perhaps 4 TD5's of various specs and configurations and all have been great and none have let me down.

The very first thing I do when I get a new-to-me TD5 is to go through it with a fine tooth comb.

Very often I've found that even though they are supposed to have been serviced regularly, they just haven't ! Some peoples idea is an engine oil and filter change.

So as with the latest one I got 3 weeks ago I:

1. Changed the engine oil and spin-off filter, currently still has old rotor filter I the two fixing screws feel 'dangerously' tight;

2. New air filter;

3. New main gearbox oil; loads of iron filings on the sump magnet indicating lack of servicing;

4. New transfer box oil - only had about 0.3 of a ltr of oil in it :eek:

5. Both diffs oil renewed - existing oil was in poor nick.

6. Checked front and rear brakes - front discs & pads satisfactory; rear discs need replacing, pads OK but will be replaced;

7. Coolant is green stuff so will need replacing;

8. Brake fluid needs replacing;

9. Chassis rusty - got cleaned and waxoyled.

10 Tyres rotated;

11. Broken rear bumper indicator lens replaced.

Now she runs great, starts beautifully, runs with good mpg and no smoke.

The issue with all 4x4's is that they need a lot more servicing than the average family car. Get the servicing right and they are great reliable cars.

My two penn'th,

Dave

The noise on cornering could be caused by your ACE system. What can happen is that a small stone gets trapped behind the metal pipes just forward of the ACE valve block (beneath the drivers seat fixed to the chassis).

When you corner there is a pulsing in the ACE system pipes (normal) but with the stone trapped there the noise is transmitted to the chassis.

Don't agree with your last statement,had mine over a year now,it is my daily driver and it just starts and goes(I did renew the autobox late last summer) and that is running !00% biodiesel.I do look after it though,as regards servicing

+1 you can expect a 12 year old car to have plenty of parts coming to the end of there life ,but looked after as reliable as any

I've actually got myself the oils ready to do gear box, transfer box, diffs, new fuel filter, and ACE filter ready to do. Looking forward to doing this.

As said, keep the faith. I'm sure soon there will be a moment where everything is working, the weather is nice and there's something great on the radio ... It will suddenly all feel great! Until something else goes pants.

I had a tonne of issues with my 2002 Golf, awful car to live with. I now have a much newer Golf GTI and whilst I love it ... There's never anything to fiddle with or fix as it never goes wrong ... Hence why I also have a Land Rover to make up for it!!!!
