Hi

I am new to this forum but could do with some advice please. I have a '96 RR 4.0 Se [lpg converted] The battery kept draining so I removed it to fit a new one. However, once the new one was fitted the key fob obviously didn't work, when inserted into the ignition and turned to start the engine the dash read 'engine disabled - press remote] When pressing the remote the red light on the key fob lights but nothing happens. So I have tried to enter the access code by inserting the key in the drivers door and turning the neccessary sequence but the key doesn't do anything - not even locking/unlocking the doors. Anyone have any ideas????

A typical scenario I'm afraid. The BECM has probably lost synch with the immobiliser/alarm system. You'll most likely need to get it sorted by someone with Rovacom/Testbook who knows what they are dong.

When changing the battery you need to keep the BECM powered - best way seems to be by connecting one of those starter packs to the terminals whilst changing the battery. The handbook suggests you go to a dealer to get them to change the battery - you've now found out why!

Long shot, but have you tried re-synching the key fob? (procedure detailed in the manual)

Hi

Thanks for the info. As always the problem starts because you can't start the car to get to a dealer in the first place!!!

Anyway, could you give me some help regarding Rovacom/testbook. I have no idea what these are?

put the key in the drivers door lock then lock and unlock then push the remote buttons to lock and then unlock, this should re-sync the key.
